A basic design, gets the job done! I used it three times now and did not have to remove the wheels to get a measurement! Warning though, will not get a measurement from the rear brake disks because they're usually covered by a heat shield.

This thing is a real time saver! I used to have to frequently pull wheels when performing brake inspections, but with this jewel, I'm able to measure rotors without wheel removal. Simple to calibrate and use, it even has a HOLD button to record your measurement for those situations where you have to remove the micrometer in order to read the measurement. Every mechanic should have one of these.
EDIT: Wanted to include a mention of a complimentary product. Get the Lisle 81850 brake pad gauge to use with this micrometer. Removing wheels to check brakes will be a thing of the past.

IS VERY EASY TO USED, CHECK DISCS WITH OUT REMOVING THE WHEELS, EASY ACCESS, IT MAKES MY JOB A LOT EASIER, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This is a nice feeling Guage and is very consistent going back to zero when closed.
Does not fit thru the wheel on all makes and models if the wheel has anoigh space to get the tool thru is good it works for me
