This is great for us because we don't use tons of this product every day, so the size is perfect. We use this in cooking often and when making the occasional batch of Kimchi, but I expect we'll need a larger size if we start making Kimchi more regularly. The flavor is rich, bright and full and it is not super spicy, if that matters to anyone (from what I understand, most Gochugaru isn't).
FWIW, I am super sensitive to MSG, and I have not had a reaction to this at all. I am so grateful for that! I was starting to think I could never use Gochugaru because so many had hidden MSG, but this doesn't and the flavor is still fabulous. (I have nothing against MSG, it just doesn't work for me)

Used in Korean dishes. There really is no replacement if you are following a korean recipe. Red Pepper Flakes are Red Pepper Flakes, does not hold true. There is a certain heat level (I think more medium) and more importantly, taste, associated with Korean Red pepper Flakes. I find however, I don't use a ton of them, so buying a large bag in an asian grocery, they go bad over time and I end up throwing them out. This is a good compromise for me, fits in the fridge without taking up a lot of room (think medium squeezable relish bottle), and I have what I need for how I cook. I might make a single container (medium size) of Kimchi, or a dinner where I need a teaspoon to a tablespoon of this type of red pepper, this works great for that. Plus it has the proper flavor. I think it could use a touch more heat, but that might be just me.
To me this is in the lower medium category of heat.

Used it to make Korean lettuce salad. It came out perfect. The bottle is quite big and you get a lot of the product. I will be using it more in the future, the flavor is great.

I never knew what this spice was until I needed it for a BACHANS recipe. It is amazing! A must staple in your kitchen if you love to cook and add exceptional flavor to your recipe!

Could not find this at our local markets, so had to order. Flavors kimchi really well.
