Effective for small kitchen exhaust
bigpig✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 5, 2018
I mounted this in a wood panel then installed in the double hung window in the kitchen. It is rather quiet and does the job quite well. It has a removable oil reservoir, which quickly collected a bit of oil, proving it is removing oil saturated air from the kitchen. The blades is easily removable for cleaning and the fan rest is rather easy to whip clean.

The biggest drawback is the cord being too short, it requiring a power receptacle being very very close to it. Ours is next to the window and still not close enough and warrant needing extension cord. :/ Also it has no power switch. We have to replace our wall receptacle that has a switch. Otherwise you have to plug and unplug every time. :/
The motor doesn't like cold weather

I need ventillation year round since this is in my rabbit shed. The motor has issues starting the colder it gets. At 40 F it is already having issues. At 20 F it just hums and doesn't turn when you try to start it...engine will burn out if you let this happen. Once it gets started it is OK, but if it is this finicky about being cold it should not be advertised as a barn or shed exhaust fan. Considering its price for a tiny little fan.....I'm pissed. Only had it for 5 months and it is useless...and I doubt that I can return it. I've had 2 of their other fans in the past (normally they last around 2 years in a dusty environment with lots of use).....noticed this 'cold' issue before....but never had one just flat out refuse to start at 20 degrees.
Survivable but not sturdy at all.

It seems to run fine so far, but the materials are VERY flimsy; the construction and overall design appear to sacrifice durability in favor of low cost. I'd say that even at half the price this would cost more than it's worth.

To give you an idea of what it's like, I had the uninstalled unit sitting on the kitchen counter and one of our cats knocked it to the floor. A) That suggests how lightweight this thing is. B) The metal on one corner was bent after that short fall of three feet or so. C) I was able to bend the metal back into place using just my fingers.

In the long run, the fan survived the drop and it runs with no problem, but I sure do feel like I was way overcharged for this thing.
fan won't rotate unless oiled every few days.

Looking for a better fan. Motor is seizing up so that I now have to oil the shaft every couple of days to get it to rotate. This is after a total of about 4 months of use where it is on a timer and runs intermittently about 12hrs per day. There doesn't appear to be any other way to oil it other than taking the fan out of the opening in my wall, disassembling the fan blade, and dripping oil down the shaft. Not a great solution, and I'll have to toss it soon.
which I hope I can cut a bigger hole underneath to allow better air flow with this bigger fan

I'm using this in my shed to vent the hot summer air that builds up whenever it's sunny. I plugged it into a really nifty temperature-controlled plug so it automatically kicks on at about 75 degrees and shuts down when it cools to about 70 later on. The roof has a standard static roof vent, which I hope I can cut a bigger hole underneath to allow better air flow with this bigger fan, but that's not anything against this fan. I had cut that hole 30 years ago and installed a much smaller pancake fan which was always much louder since it's a high-speed fan; the noise was quite annoying.
The PG fan is totally peaceful to listen to, just a mild whoosh of air flow- no annoying buzz or high pitched hum like you'll get with most pancakes.
If I can manage to open the hole into the roof vent (it's about 6" now, 8" would be perfect) the PG fan will surely keep my shop nice and cool even on the hottest days. Even with the undersize "exit" it's still moving plenty of air, I just feel a slight breeze of warm air swirling below it due to the fan not being fully accommodated. I highly recommend this fan for what it is, and would gladly buy another
