Planned obsolescence, or simply poor design?
Texindo•August 30, 2017
As https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3VCQG0MNN7TXA and others have said, in the beginning, it will work. After a while (upwards towards a year), it will suddenly stop working. It will sense when the door is open or closed, as well as beep and light up when told to open or close, but to actively close the circuit to the garage's terminals by emulating a push-button? It stops working.

Do not buy

I concur, do not buy this. Mine has gone bad as well. I have been using it successfully with the SmartThings hub, but it has suddenly stopped opening or closing my door. The door status still shows correctly and upon closing or opening the door via the Smart App, you will hear the beeps from the unit and the App status changes to either "Opening" or "Closing", but then nothing happens.
Stopped functioning after only 8 months of light use. Manufacturer unresponsive.

I bought this device in April 2016. I happen to also have a Linear garage door opener (just by chance). The GoControl z-wave opener was very easy to install and I had it paired with my Samsung Smartthings v2 hub in no time. It worked great. I was able to open and close the door through the Smartthings app and even if it was manually opened or closed the status was reflected properly in the app.
Fast forward to December 1, 2016. The unit has stopped moving the door. The GoControl was not used super often, but was on occasion. I can open and close the door with the button on the wall and the status is still reported to the Smarthings hub just fine. However, when trying to open or close the door it beeps and flashes like normal and then nothing; no door movement.
I have tried:
-Unplugging the GoControl and the garage door opener for an hour and trying again - no luck
-Removing the switch on the wall so only the GoControl is connected to the garage door opener - no luck
-I've tried removing the GoControl from the z-wave network and re-adding it, following all set up instructions - no luck
-I've stuck a multimeter on the wires and tried to open the door and there was no connectivity change read on the meter
It appears that the unit is completely unable to move the door. I've tried contacting support [...], but I have not been able to get any help. Calls get forwarded to voicemail, online chat is always unavailable, email to them has gone unanswered for more than 7 days now. I've been trying to get in contact with them for over a week.
My GoControl is only 8 months old and was no used a whole lot. It's well within the 1 year warranty that comes with the unit, but I have been unable to get any contact with the manufacturer. I definitely will not be purchasing a replacement GoControl.

Nice unit but no seller support
Bob Shine•November 6, 2016
The GoControl/Linear GD00Z-4 was easy to install and connected without issue to my Wink network. It was a great addition to my network and saved me a couple of "I forgot to close the garage door" incidents from my kids. I've had it in use for 10 months and now it has stopped working and acts like it can't read the tilt sensor reliable. A new battery, relocation of the tile sensor and factory reset don't solve the problem.
Now what do I do? The "1 Year" warranty seems to only apply to units purchased through an installer, technical support is $50 from the seller, and apparently you can't just buy a new tilt sensor.
Nice unit ... but without seller support, what good is it?

Great product when it worked. After just a year this one stopped working. I'm only getting the status of the garage whether its open or close. As far as opening and closing the garage its not doing anything anymore. I contacted Customer support at Nortek, no response from them
