After my US Air Force Korean Conflict veteran husband's stroke, I was given a cotton gait belt. It was adequate but it was difficult to guide him with what was essentially an extra wide belt. I love this belt to help my mom walk and transfer. It has many handles to grab on to and I love the snap buckle versus the belt buckle type fastener. Easy on, easy off. Pretty easy to tighten when they stand up, if you put on while in sitting position.
