Looking for Vacuum Port Adapters
Emmett✓ Verified Purchase•October 2, 2023
Unfortunately, I ordered the suggested vacuum port reducer from Power Tech. It does not fit the outlet on the Rousseau 5000, but it does fit the Ridgid 5 HP shop vacuum hose perfectly. Unisaw reviewed his purchase with a Vacuum port outlet adapter which appears to fit properly. I wish he had listed a link for the product. I fully believe the dust shroud will help keep the dust level down in my small shop. Assembly went fairly smoothly. I drilled holes through the workbench top where the bolts for mounting the saw had holes and it worked out great. I did purchase two longer carriage bolts to make for the thickness of the workbench top. Hopefully, Unisaw will see this and make a comment.
I found the Power Tech Dust Control Flex Cuff 70149 and it is the perfect fit. After installing the cuff and the adapter, 4"x2.5", I connected my 5 HP shop vac with my dust stopper. I made several test cuts on a piece of scrap wood. I would say the Rousseau 5000 is about 90% efficient. I have not found a 45-degree fitting to direct the original dust chute downward into the shroud. This should make it even more efficient. That being said 90% is such a great improvement over what was a real dust storm in my small shop even with the shop vac connected directly to the saw dust port.

Seems to work, missing 2 3/16 bolts

Item list says there should be 4 0.75" 3/16 bolts to match the 4 wingnuts, but even though the plastic was not open, there were only 2 such bolts. If this happens to you, you can use 3/8" carriage bolts (I had some laying around) to attach to your saw if you have them, and repurpose the longer 3/16 to hold the two pieces going to the bonnet together.
Anyway, other than them not shipping all the required components, install was fairly straightforward, which is good, as instructions are not detailed.
The bonnet does a much better job than just using the dust port: I would guess something like maybe only 10% of the material gets out, and that's mostly high velocity stuff thrown forward where the canopy doesn't cover (because you need the area to lay your lumber across).
You wind up with sawdust coating the inside of the canopy, because unless you have a gigantic dust collector, you won't get suction throughout the bonnet.
Instead, they have designed it so that the hole leading out of bonnet is the lowest point, and so if your sawdust works its way down, it will be eventually sucked out.
I'll have to use it long term to see how it goes, but my initial impressions are quite positive.

Good produce but terrible instructions!

This canopy/device appears to adequately catch most of the saw dust, just as other reviewers claimed. Important to note that the effectiveness will greatly depend on now you install it with relation to the rear/top of the miter saw itself. The closest you can install the front of the canopy to the miter saw fence the better it will work. Need to be sure to install it at a location that will not interfering with the saw or the space that boards will lay on the saw.
The canopy material seems like it will last a long time and hold up well - provided you do not create any friction contact spots (note: friction WILL ocurr if the canopy touches anything that is stationary due to vibration from the saw).
The instructions are nearly useless. I have the model without lights which are not really needed if the saw area is wll lit (IMHO). Best bet to help install is to search You Tube for how to install it. There are few good ones that are far more useful than the included instructions (BTW, those included instructions were not even for the current model of the product!).
So, if you have time, patience and the materials, you can make your own dust shroud/assembly as many have done. No shortage of You Tube vids on those. However, it time is just as important, then this thing is a good option and I think worth the money...but time will tell of course!

Works remarkably well.

Always a hassle with mitre saws are the amount of dust they produce. This well made piece works better than expected and I would recommend it.
It is collapsible with its own carry satchel for job site application but I have mine permanently mounted in my shop.

I do a lot of new construction kitchen installations. I do not utilize a vacuum system, so this has almost completely removed my dust from the miter saw. You can run your cord or a vacuum hose through the hole in the bottom of the tent and my Dewalt saw can swing inside the tent with no problem.
Only complaint is the arms that hold the tent up are a little weird and the wing nuts come undone if they aren't tightened when the saw is bouncing around in the truck. I think if I switch out the hardware with some locking nuts this will be a non-issue.
I have never used the fast cap hood, so I cannot compare, but I am very pleased with the product. Less cleanup and I find I am not coughing up a lung at the end of a job.
