I was going for a $250 setup, I used these with a Polk psw10 sub, and the lepai 2020 amp.
Even without the subwoofer these bookshelves just we're phenomenal for the price! Although if you want serious sound, a subwoofer is needed. Any $100 pair of bookshelf speakers will need a subwoofer, so I'm not critical of them with that matter.

I use this as a set of "B" speakers on top of some larger ones. They sound okay by themselves but benefit from additional lower frequencies. Overall, good for the price and with a very solid build.
