Very good. If you're doing screencasts
NickoliBarrucullas✓ Verified Purchase•April 11, 2017
Very good. If you're doing screencasts, etc, always use a mic with USB input (Like this one). I learned the hard-way, that traditional condenser mics require a really good sound card to produce good quality. The "Line-in" mic jack in the back of your computer just won't cut it!
Cons:
-Picks up a some background noise that is probably because of my room. (Sound proof your recording area!) I fixed this easily with some free software. (OBS -noise suppresson function)
-Monitor volume knob seems cheap, although all other input buttons seem very high quality.
-probably need a pop filter...I used OBS noise gate function, but it cuts out certain parts of my voice at times.

Great if you are making courses

Brilliant is the word! Have been making audio recordings for my courses using these and I just cannot do without them. Highly sensitive too as they pick up almost everything and so I would strongly suggest you make your recordings in a sound proof room or make your room as sound proof as possible. My only gripe would be the cable that connects to the base of the microphone. As a tip, make sure you pull the cable through the hole (of the stand), tilt the microphone upwards (so that the base faces you) and then plug it into the base instead of first attaching the cable to the base of the microphone and then trying to twist the cable around or through the hole at the base. Also once the cable is fixed to the base make sure you do not tilt the mic the other way i.e where the cable is forced to touch the stand. This could badly twist the cable or even damage the contacts. I wish Blue could come up with a simple solution for this. Otherwise, this mic is unbeatable.
Test 1-2-3, anything but that ... because you'll sound like a pro!

I love this microphone! I'll leave all the technical aspects to some of the other reviewers but I have to say this was one of my best Black Friday purchases. While it is quite larger, it's not all that obtrusive on my desk. I use it daily for Skype, which may seem weird but it's so much better than using the headphone/mic that came with my mac. It's so clear and I can mute it if I need to cough or answer a question with someone in my office. When it's not in use I unplug it from the USB port but I leave it on my desk. I have the silver one and it matched well with my mac.
It does take a little bit of time to learn how to use the gain and pattern as well as the mute, but they're great additions to this mic for everyday use. I've used it to participate on podcasts and hangouts and it's so clear! I like that I can attach headphones so I can not only hear myself but also not be distracted when talking with others or being a guest on a podcast.
It may seem expensive for an everyday mic but you'll be glad you made the investment. I used to rely on a headphone/mic combo or just on the built-in mic but once I switched to this Blue Yeti I was getting compliments on my connection being so clear.
I suggest getting a pop filter or foam windscreen, they make a huge difference.

Here's the thing - this is a great microphone for what it is and how much it ...

Here's the thing - this is a great microphone for what it is and how much it costs. I was able to pick one up on a lightning deal for $89 and it's well worth that price, however, I've had a few problems with it from day one that have since been rectified. Let's start with the bad.
Number one, I had to ship the first one back because one of the screws that holds the microphone into place was stripped out. This is not anyone's fault however it shows a possible cheapness in the product quality. Metal screws would not have stripped as easily as these screws. Otherwise the product is definitely sturdy and feels like it's a quality product. It has a nice weight to it and a really nice look to it. I do wish that the microphone had a mute button without a light on it. It actually is a bit confusing as to whether or not the mic is muted because you a red light would make you think it's muted -- not with this mic. It is not muted unless the light is blinking. Also, I really don't want another LED shining at my face while I work.
Number two, the microphone itself sometimes has a hard time connecting with my iMac. Every once in a while the microphone will show up in my sound settings but it will not have any audio coming into the computer. I searched some internet forums and this is not uncommon. One workaround I have found is to open up my sound settings and leave them open - this seems to keep the mic working.
Finally we can talk about the good and what should matter most when you are purchasing an expensive USB microphone and that is the sound quality -- it's excellent. If you are streaming a podcast or recording scratch audio for video production like I use it for, this microphone is really great. It has a great clarity that you would expect from a much more expensive microphone. I actually attended an SNL video editing workshop and the editor from Saturday Night Live said that there's been many occasions where the voiceover used in the spots they air on television were recorded at the editing station using this microphone.
I definitely recommend getting this if you can afford it and you're looking for ways to improve your sound quality in a convenient package.
Another tip, I use this mic while on FaceTime and phone calls from my computer and it sounds really nice and much better than the built in computer mic.

first I thought it was okay to pretty good, then I used it with garageband............

I have been trying to record straight from my tablet or cellphone to use on youtube and facebook. the sound is what you think it is. there is an airy whooshing bad quality to it. but since these things aren't made for high quality music recording, it is what it is.
I kept getting that result with the blue yeti in my macbook recording with imovie, still trying to record right to a video, sound was almost the same as my phone and tab, but with a little more headroom (clear sound before distortion or breaking up with recorded guitar sound), so I thought, well this is what you get for better but not a super expensive mic. then I used it in garage band and there is no noise or whoosh!!! there is some wind/hum that seems to just be the sound in the room and that is fine, cause once you play or multi track, you don't hear it. it sounds GREAT and is worth every penny. I use it on stereo and that has the best sound. I have had garageband in my mom's laptop but never used it till recently. I have a 24 track tascam that is great, and I will always love, but it is so quick to be able to record stuff on this and put it online. I also saw online about how you can record on PHOTOBOOTH and GARAGEBAND at the same time, then just synch them up. the guy at guitar center said to get the best sound that is the way to go. I agreed but didn't intend on ever doing that any time soon, but now I can see why you need to do that.
there is a youtube vid comparing this and the snowball, I was very close to getting that one, thankfully guitar center didn't have one, bad luck working out for the better. I waited for a few and spent more. when you hear him record the same stuff with both mics there is no contest, though to be fair this is like twice as much as the ice, so it should sound much better. though the ice does sound good and the price is great.
this mic is the real deal. with garageband it is flawless. it is very sensitive, people have complained here about that. I will notice a sound while playing and be like "what the heck is that", only to realize it is me hitting something on my couch where I play. it picks up noise in the other room too, it is very sensitive and that is a good thing.
