• •Use regular woodworking tools to cut and shape this material. Try to leave as much of the surface area untouched as possible to retain as much of the colored dye as possible. Due to the density of buffalo horn, the dye is only able to penetrate about 1mm deep into the material. Also please note that any cut or sanded portions will temporarily appear gray-- just polish and buff these areas to return them to a beautiful, deep, glossy sheen.
• •Every set of scales WILL differ in pattern, texture, color and shape. Each is cut from naturally occurring horn/bone.

• •When shaping your handle, try to leave as much of the surface area untouched as possible to retain as much of the colored areas as possible. Due to the density of buffalo horn, the dye is only able to penetrate about 1mm deep into the material.
• •Please note that any cut or sanded portions will turn a dull gray color. Just polish and buff these areas to return them to a beautiful, deep, glossy sheen.
• •If thinning the scales is required, it is recommended that you sand the back-side of the scales (facing your blade's handle), to leave as much of the outside of the buffalo horn as untouched as possible.
• •Sometimes the pieces may require sanding to become perfectly flat. A standard belt sander works well for this job.
