The Valhalla Java and Deathwish coffee have definitely earned a spot in my top 5. However in the description it says "GROUND" coffee, but i was sent whole bean. Now at first i didn't think that it would be that big of a deal, just throw it in the ninja food processor and BAM! But i noticed that even putting the recommended amount, and sometimes even more coffee grinds, that towards the end the coffee would be very light, almost straight water. Now i dont know if that is because of the way i ground them or if its because i'm using the coffee grind attachment for the Kurig, but i took the grinds and put them in a coffee filter and tied it off like a makeshift tea bag and let it steep overnight for maximum flavor. I swear taste wise both coffees pass with flying colors. it was bold but smooth, and i didn't get that bitter aftertaste like i do with just about any other coffee i've ever had. now onto the caffeine kick... again. i dont know if its because of the method i used to convert them from whole bean to ground, or because of the Kurig, but i think the steep method i used would've extracted all the caffeine it could. but i had two large cups of it, and while yes i would consider it more potent than most other coffees, i have a hard time believing that it has as much caffeine as some sources say (which is different just about everywhere i look; caffeine to fluid ounce ratio). I would try the Kurig cups but that's even more expensive as expected. My girlfriend however LOVES it and i think both of them have become her favorites, she prefers the Valhalla over the Deathwish. I think if i tried the actual grinds and had a better result, i would easily give it a 5/5. All in all, both coffees have a nice, bold but smooth flavor and a pretty nice caffeine kick.
