good for bush craft
kevin r.March 17, 2017
this knife is a great bush craft blade.
its very basic but that's why I bought it so I wouldn't have to use the other blades I have .
for 30 bucks this is a good knife, in the video the pitch man says the extra pocket is generously loaded and it is, the striker is ok but you'll laugh when you see the sharpening stone, its a plastic square with sand tape for the sharpening stone(not stone) so while your at it maybe you should order a good stone.all in all I really like this knife .its worth 30.00.i did order another for my wife's bug out pack.
we also bought another Schrade the Leroy, its ridiculous in size but its cool ,schrade makes good mid priced knives ,not so pretty you cant bring yourself to use them.
loving the Schrade Drop Point!

this was part of my girlfriend's Christmas gift, and two things became immediately clear; 1) she LOVED the knife. she wouldn't put it down, which was both heartwarming and effing terrifying.

2) i need to upgrade MY knife. mine is a piece, compared to the Schrade. i probably will buy myself one when camping/ hiking season rolls around.

excellent size, fits well in my hand, looks sharp (get it??), and is beefy and very well-constructed. this is a real, full-tang, knife-- not a toy. if your knife has a rat-tail tang, or is one of those deals where you can store stuff in the handle, it's vastly inferior to this beast.

For the price it is hard to beat. It is a great knive for the large camping chores like batoning and chopping, while the finger choil helps with smaller tasks. The fero rod is small but gives great sparks and the stiker is the best I have found and one the rod used up I will keeping the striker. The knife sharper is small but is a good back up for in the field tune ups. The quality and size of the fero rod and sharpen are low but you can't expect them to be great at this price point and the knife far out ways these.

So if you are looking for an heavy duty knife on a budget this is a great chose. The other items are just extras.

Cons for me: the jimping is a bit too aggressive and digs into my hand and fingers when chopping without gloves. So I took the handles off and filed them down to make a little more comfortable.
A solid knife for the woods at an exceptional price.

The Schrade SCHF Frontier knife is a well built, solid full tang knife. It arrives in a fitted Schrade box,( Love the green). The knife is inside the sheath with the knife secured inside of it, along with plastic wrapping the knife and sheath with some descant bags to keep the product dry and in good shape for the customer.

Starting with the Sheath, it is 13.5 inches tall by 2.75 inches wide. it is made of multiple pieces of thick nylon that is all sewn together with a binder around it. The sewing is very good and the sheath looks durable. The side pouch contains a four inch fire starting rod with a striker. The other included item is a 1.5 x 4 diamond sharpening stone for the knife. There is also 2 strands of nylon cord 15 in long to secure the sheath to your leg. It has a one piece belt loop at the top that can be separated by Velcro to easily attach it to the users belt. One nice feature is a hard plastic insert that guides the knife into the sheath smoothly without fear of cutting yourself or the sheath.

The tang and the top of the knife are .250 consistently. The blade is 6.250 long with the knifes overall length is 12 inches 3/8 inches.the blade is 1.533 tall and appears quite solid. The handle material is some type of rubber secured on both sides with cap-head screws. The handle is .823 wide with the index finger .151 slot and the other finger holds are 1.250. The blade also has some type of coating affixed to all the bare metal surfaces, it seems rough, like a fine sandpaper.

So why the four stars? The handle is quite small for my hands and I found I have difficulty securely gripping the knife, I have to slide my hand on the blade section and use the finger ring on there just to hold it comfortably. But if I keep doing that I know what will happen in the near future. This is a solid knife with a sturdy sheath, fire stick and sharpener, for the price, it is a good choice, I do like it, but I just have issues with the handle. Thanks for reading, Jim from Ct. Another fine knife from Schrade! As I said in other reviews, can't go wrong with Schrade. I a have a very large collection of knives some 85 of various kinds. Some of them are in the $.1000's these are all custom knives made by the best in the knife world. Loveless,Reeves,Onion, and Hammond I guess what I'm trying to say is this If you can find a better knife for under $50.00 bucks. BUY IT!!!!!.
