I think it's the luck of the draw when buying vanilla beans

I read quite a number of reviews on vanilla beans and decided to go with this company. Since they are now sold out, I probably got the bottom of the barrel with my order. About 1/4 of the beans were dried up and very hard to cut open. The ones that were oily and had a decent amount of seeds in them did not give off the vanilla fragrance that I expected. Since vanilla beans are very expensive, I can only hope I didn't waste my money trying to make some double fold vanilla extract using these beans. Reviewers are at the mercy of the company and what gets packaged and sent to them. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones to receive a nice batch of plump, fragrant vanilla beans.

This is such a great deal for the amount you receive. The beans are excellent quality and I have purchased these a few times now. I make vanilla sugar and vanilla extract. I also scrape out the inner *pulp* and add that directly to cakes and ice cream then add the pods to a bottle of bourbon or vodka to make extract. I have used in a potpourri pot as well. Many uses - great quality and price.
