Good alternative to Diehard Boots
Pete✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 20, 2023
I picked these up during Black Friday over a year ago and decided to try them. I had been using Sears Diehards before then and was looking for an alternative since the stores are going away. I needed this style and sole type for my line of work. By the pictures you can see it's asphalt and street work.

These have done well for my needs. They fit comfortably right out of the box. No real break in period necessary. They have gotten more comfortable over time though as expected. I've lost almost half the tread on the soles but haven't slipped in them.
I will say I do like the Diehards better but these are comparable. I don't know if I'd buy them again for the current price but for what I paid, I have no regrets.
Good budget boots with a few flaws

I've had a pair of Chippewa boots for a few years, but I found myself wanting some boots in black. Moc toe seemed like the right style, but since I wasn't really sure if I'd want them for years and years I decided to try out Golden Fox rather than a standard like Thorogood. In summary, these are a good purchase for the price.

The leather is obviously not going to last as long as that on my Chippewas, but that's expected from comparing $75 boots to $180 ones. It still is *ok*, but these aren't boots I'm going to get resoled and pass down to my son.

The sole claims to be oil-resistant, but that's incredibly not true: I was cooking while testing these out and the bit of oil splatter from the stove that got on our hardwood gave me less traction than when I'm in just socks. I didn't buy these for grip (when I need that, I have my lugged Chippewas), but I think it's worth mentioning.

Walking was a bit weird at first, I think because of the angle of the wedge sole. After a few wears it felt natural though.

My main annoyance is with the speed hooks. There are only two sets, and upping that to three would make putting on the boot much easier. They are also too close together, so I often end up hooking two hooks at the same time. The purpose of speed hooks is to make it faster to put on your boots; in this case, it's still faster than traditional lacing, but with these minor adjustments it would be significantly better.

Overall I'm quite happy with these as a $75 pair of boots - I think they're a good buy if you want a pair of boots that aren't terrible but don't need to invest in something for the long term.
You can’t beat this boot for the price.

My first pair of Golden Fox moc toes. I went a half size smaller and they fit perfect. Leaves enough room for some thicker socks if you wear them. First impression out of the box they look bad ass. I immediately put them on at work when I got them and as soon as I walked out the office I started getting compliments. Felt great for wearing them on the first day and I know they will soften up more as I I continue to wear them. For $75 bucks you cannot beat this quality and price. Great style especially with some dark jeans. Can be worn out to the bar or anywhere a casual boot is needed. Great for work which is what I needed. I highly recommend. I'll update this review after I have worn them for awhile. Hoping the quality is good and they hold up. If they do then I will continue to purchase this brand.

11/28/18 boots are holding up well. I wear them every day. Have received more compliments with these boots than anything else I've ever worn. Very comfortable. They did have a little breaking in to do but only about a week or so. Love these. Highly recommend. Will purchase again.

Solid Boot for the Price

I've been wanting a pair of boots in this style for awhile but wasn't wanting to dish out RedWings or Danner money. The boots fit as expected ( I normally wear a 9.5 in boots and 10 in running shoes so went with a 9.5.

Based on other reviews, I went ahead and bought after-market laces and insoles (though the insoles that came in them were comfortable for walking around in).

For laces, I found some on Amazon from a company called Mercury + Maia and they have kevlar in them. I with with a red & black pair and they work wonderfully together.

For insoles, I found a pair of Avia gel and memory foam insoles with arch support at a Marshalls for $8.

I also took sole Saddle Soap to them to condition the leather. I typically do this will all of my leather boots/shoes at least every other month. Only takes a few minutes.

The only reason I didn't give these 5 stars is because the tongue tends to slip towards the outside of my foot and doesn't center quite like it should. Seems like a fairly easy design flaw to correct in future versions of the boot.
