I'd like to say a few words for those of you who enjoy modeling but are just casual builders. Dragon is probably the BEST maker of armor model kits. Their attention to detail is unrivalled. Their plastic is clean, and you won't be dealing with flash, ejector marks or any other nonsense. Now having said that, there is this: Dragon kits are NOT for the casual builder. Their parts count is high (450 for this kit). You will be building many sub-assemblies from a myriad of teeny tiny parts. Fit is excellent but you must take the time to clean (i.e sand) each part meticulously. Their instruction sheets are notoriously difficult to comprehend....each step is presented as an exploded drawing, and it looks almost like reading a blueprint, which in fact it is. What all this means is that to build a Dragon kit, you should be well versed in modeling skills, including working with photo etched parts. A lot of patience is required, as well as good eyesight and the ability to work with tiny parts. This isn't meant to scare you off, but you should be aware of what you're getting into. When I re-entered modeling about four years ago, I worked my way up starting with Tamiya, and then onto Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Academy, etc. I didn't attempt a Dragon kit until I had built about 30 less complicated kits.I
If you're up to the challenge by all means purchase this kit. It's a good price for Dragon and it looks stunning when completed. Because it's an open top AF V you'll need to paint most of the interior during assembly, unlike the way many armor kits are completely built before painting begins. Building such a finely detailed kit gives you a great sense of accomplishment and pride, which is probably the main reason we do this hobby, right? Hope this helps anyone who is looking to tackle a more complex kit. Oh and BTW there are so many good tutorials and reviews on Youtube....I can't even begin to tell you how much I've learned there about the finer points of model making. Happy Building!
