Not as powerful as indicated. Doesn't work with Non-Sony android at all. Doesn't work with IPAD 2016 or newer at all. Pretty much useless as anything but a paperweight for anything but a Sony Player/Phone. Returning.

I purchased a refurbished unit and it works like new. The sound quality is drastically improved over the normal from my iPhone. The iPhone automaticallt detects the PHA-1A and will bypass its own DAC. My only gripe is that this unit scratches easily. I threw it in a messenger bag with my headphones and somehow it scratched the paint. Not a big deal as the unit still works but annoying.
The sound improvement is worth the money but your device battery will be depleted if you listen for a long period.

Excellent product that dramatically improves the sound quality of your music. The reason I did not give it a full five stars is because it does not charge your device when it is in use. This is not an issue if you listen to your music for a short time. If however you get hooked on the superior sound this becomes a problem as you want to keep listening for hours and you then end up with a depleted battery on your phone or tablet.
Belkin has just come out with a splitter (Dual Lightning "Rockstar" adaptor) that allows you to listen to music via the lightning connector while you charge your IPhone or iPad. This was made to address the lack of a headphone jack on the new IPhone 7. Unfortunately the splitter does not work with the Sony PHA1A. My hope is that future efforts to allow charging and listening will be compatible but who knows given the proprietary nature of both Sony and Apple.
The sound improvement is dramatic and it comes with the price of a depleted battery.

Works great with Nexus 6P phone, but will not allow charging of the phone while using it.

I purchased this unit to replace my Fiio A3 headphone amplifier.
I use this DAC with a Nexus 6P phone, using an OTG cable and connecting the micro-usb cable into the micro usb port in input at back of unit. The sound works either in "charging" or "File Transfer" mode on USB mode in Android (see alerts on top left of phone when connecting USB C cable to your phone and by scrolling down, you will see USB options.)
I really love this DAC so far:
Pros:
-Sound is crystal clear.
-Good Aluminum build.
-Great volume potential.
-Many optional input.
Cons:
-Not as big as I thought, but is bulky copmpared to Fiio A3 heaphone amp.
-Cannot charge Nexus 6P phone while using the DAC.
