A Healthier Sleep Environment was reason number 1
cynb✓ Verified Purchase•January 15, 2018
I bought the 3" topper and am very pleased. I sleep well, I feel like I am sleeping healthier compared to my old topper, and I do believe it is cooler. I have 2 large dogs who are welcome cuddlers in the winter but, at other times, I have felt like I needed a chimney to vent out the heat. Even though they sleep on top of the bed, they tend to wedge me in the middle and the heat gets trapped there. That doesn't happen nearly so often with this topper.
I also have bony shoulders and severe tendonitis in my hands so I need the extra cushioning since I am a side sleeper. I have had this topper for months now and I see 0 degradation in the quality. It is just as smooth and the loft as perfect as the day I put it on. No sinkholes or dips.
Primarily, for me, it was the desire for a healthier sleep environment that was the driving factor behind spending this much money. No regrets.

Latex Topper with ILD = 20 is the key!

Great topper at a decent price.
When initially opened, there was absolutely NO odor from the topper. It attained its final shape within two (2) hours. A great start!
If you want to modify/change the feel of your existing mattress, add this LATEX topper! It's soft (ILD = 20) and that's what is needed to "soften" the existing feel and to provide a NON-SINK-IN feeling to you. The soft latex will cushion your body w/o sinking-in as happens with a memory foam topper. You can turn over without feeling you have to climb a "hill".

It's worth the time.

PERFECT SOLUTION FOR A TOO FIRM BED!!! On second thought, the odor might be getting to me

I have been having severe back problems. A few months ago it was suggested I replace my 17 year old mattress. So, after much research, I ended up ordering a foam mattress that did not work out. I then went to a local company who makes mattresses to order. It is a combination individual coil spring and foam. It was a $1300 mattress and I chose to get it pretty firm. Well, it was not very comfortable. I have the option of them picking up the mattress and remaking it to my specification but they only do that once and what if it went too far on the soft side? So I decided to keep it as was and order this topper. I went with the 2" (could have probably been good with the 3" but the 2" is fine). Doubt that it will cure by back issues but I have to say that I now think I have the most comfortable bed I could imagine!!!! I kept a mattress cover on the mattress, added the topper and then ordered a 100% cotton mattress pad that goes on top. It IS winter, but I felt no excessive heat issues. I am very sensitive to odors and that was no problem. In fact I opened it last night, put it on the bed and slept on it. Didn't need to be aired out. Bottom line, I LOVE this topper.
I'm writing an update after sleeping on this a second night. My initial review stated that there was no odor. But, on the second night, I noticed an odor and could even smell it on my skin. Now I'm concerned. I woke up with a headache and hope it is not from the latex. I did cover it with an all cotton mattress pad but the odor seems to be penetrating that. I'll keep you posted. If it does not go away, I will have to return it.

Make my bed? Why not just Rebuild it!

The Drunken Reviewer here giving some more "helpful" advice on your next amazon purchase!
OK, so some people rebuild cars, some rebuild motorcycles. I, on the other hand, rebuilt my bed, literally.. So a few years back the wife and I bought a brand new Vera Wang mattress from a box store at a "great price". It was nice, everyone slept great, for about a year... Then we tossed and turned as it slowly started to sink in the two spots we normally slept. Warranty to the rescue! They come out, they measure the "dents", claim it as bad and tell us to come get another mattress. But wait, why not just bring us another? "Oh that one was a special discount price, we can only give you store credit for it..." Well so much for my great price... So now I'm stuck with a cheaper one unless I wanted to pay more instore, yay. This one lasts a few years but eventually failed again and this time we're into the "pro-rated warranty" period. So do I get an even cheaper mattress from the store? No. This time I researched and researched until I'd learned enough to never buy a box store mattress again. But I also learned why my mattress failed and what was still good in my mattress, the box spring foundation. And just like in houses, if the foundation is good, you can rebuild anything.
So I completely disassembled my old mattress, and bought 3 things.
1. A proper bed frame (also from Amazon)
2. An awesome ticking (it's a mattress term, look it up!) that was zippered and washable
3. This Dunlop based 100% natural 3" Latex Mattress Topper!!
So I took apart my mattress and chunked the old ticking and crappy top layer of foam that had died and caused all the problems from the get go. Then I put the bottom spring foundation into my new ticking, then the still functional piece of foam from the old mattress, then this Awesome piece of Latex! And you know what! I was too damned stiff for me... Now the wife loved it, but just a little too much stiffness for my sleeping taste. So unzipped the ticking and swapped the foam and latex so that the foam was on top and the latex was in the middle. BAMM!! Sleepy Awesomeness for All!!!
So yes, this drunken fool cut up his mattress and rebuilt it like a 65 Mustang, from the ground up. And you know what? That was 3 months ago and we've been sound sleeping ever since.
So why the 4 stars?? Because this thing said and I just can't call this anything but medium, maybe medium/soft... But other then that, it's been very much so an awesome addition to my bed rebuild project. I just hope they'll make an extra soft 1" version I can use to cover this one once the standard foam I put on top wears out.
And why does this thing smell like a Sweet Vanilla Milkshake???

I bought this as one of two 3" layers to transform my way-too-hard mattress into something more comfortable. Using this as the bottom layer (below a Talalay Medium firm top layer), my bed has turned into the most comfortable sleeping experience I've ever had. It is plenty supportive, but also extremely comfortable. Since getting the two layers and deploying them, I have been sleeping better than I ever had since I was a child.
The packaging was very thoughtfully done. The topper was very tightly compressed in a fairly small box within a considerably larger box (which would be necessary if I needed to return the topper for some reason). The smaller box made the topper much easier to handle, and I was able to get it inside and unwrapped by myself, which was not the case with the other 3" topper I ordered (different company).
There was a fairly distinctive odor of rubbing alcohol when the topper came out of the plastic wrapping, but it dissipated within a few hours. It also completely decompressed within about 10-12 hours.
A general note about latex toppers (or any type of "comfort layer" topper): I did an enormous amount of research before purchasing these items, and one of the things I discovered (on one of the many "how to buy a latex mattress" pages) was that different types of sleepers need different thicknesses of comfort layers. As a non-featherweight side sleeper, the recommendation for me was at least 5", and this is why I purchased two toppers. I also discovered in my research several sites that recommended Dunlop for the core layer (of a multi-layer latex mattress), and Talalay for the top layer. Apparently Dunlop is more resilient and longer-lasting, but Talalay is softer and cooler. I followed these recommendations, and I couldn't be happier with the end result.
ETA: Six months later, I am still happy as can be with this topper. I recently swapped the two 3" layers as an experiment, and now have the 3" medium-firm Talalay on the bottom and the 3" soft Dunlop layer on top. The jury is still out as to which I will like better in the long run, but I can say that the soft Dunlop definitely *feels* softer than the medium-firm Talalay.
