After investigating suspicious network traffic, it was determined that this unit is making contact with an overseas server EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. There is no setting to turn off whatever the communication is. The only option is to unplug it from your internet.

Once a traffic sniffer was set up, we could see that these cameras were calling IP 47.90.243.104 every single minute all day and night. THE IP ADDRESS IS REGISTERED TO ALIBABA. make what assumptions you want to, but be warned, you should expect no privacy with these cameras.

Which is too bad, for the price the camera were decent and the NVR is ok. Navigation is a train wreck but at this price they all are. Customer service was great too. Too bad that I will never use these again.

UPDATE REVIEW 5/18/18. I bought this camera system a year and has been using it for about 11 months. Since then, 4 cameras got " purple tint" so far. I figure out the one got "purple tint" the most is the one in the dark place, don' offent see the sunlight. Also the one that see the sunlight often will be get "purple tint" free easy than the other. I don't think this is the good product if compare the price and quality to the other. I also have 2 other camera systems from QSEE. It about 2 years and 3 years old, but each camera system has only 1 purple tint. I will update more when something good or bad happen. I have been using it since June 20, 2017. At first, it gave a clear view. Now, 1 of 4 cameras is giving me an headache which is the view of that camera turn to purple color...it so annoying when I check the preview app. Just after 3 months. So disappointed.

Im so sorry that I have to knock them down to 1 star or even if I can put a negative star for this product. After contact to the customer service and they keep asking me to do this and that and blaa blaa blaa. it is totally wasting time and money on this product. Now after 3 months of use, my camera has "FREE PURPLE TINT" and warranty have NOT do anything after 2 weeks I asked them. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT for business or household use.
New UPDATE on 10/18/2017:I made it 1 become 3 stars not for this product, just for service team had been spent a lot of time to make this happened. After work out with service team, they sent to me a new camera but unfortunately this new one was defective while in transit, then service teams had come up with a great idea which gave me a partial refund and send a different use d system to me, for that I could use to replace for my system. thank you to service teams and specially to Kara and Lynn.

If I was rating the cameras and system alone, I'd give it 5 Stars. I've deducted one star because the instructions I received told me to download the XMeye App for use on Mobile Devices. I was able to email JOOAN ([email protected]) who were very responsive and helpful, and informed me that I had a new version of the NVR and I should now be using the XVR app.

Would I have purchased these cameras if I had known the company was based in China, probably not as my main concern would have been with warranty issues / customer service etc being on a different time zone.

Would I purchase the same camera system again with what I know now, absolutely. The cameras were easy to install running the Ethernet cables through my attic. The camera quality seems very high (only had for one week so hard to fully comment), the NVR system is very easy to use with many options for recording, playback, motion detection etc.

For those who do purchase these camera, there is a complete user manual (50+ pages) that can be downloaded and very useful. A quick smart guide comes with the cameras and not enough IMHO for a complete setup of the NVR system. Overall very happy. 4.5/5

I finally got a chance to hook up these camera's. One of the channels is not powering up. i have switched cables and cameras with no joy. When i click on the DO1 feed it says "reach the limitation of channel number". It looks as though the 4 camera system only thinks it can run 3? Also, after a short time all of the camera black out. I am not very confident in this system if it cannot even work right out of the box...

UPDATE: Okay so i figured out how to get everything working. If you have a camera or cameras that are black and have a little key on the bottom left of your screen, you have to go back and reconfigure your IP addresses for the system and each cameras manually. The default address that came was the issue as mine was completely different. I will complete my install over the next few weeks and I shall return for an update after about 3 months.

Video quality is terrible for being 2MP, you may be getting 1920x1080 pixels but the sensor quality is not good. Cameras need rebooted regularly to continue working. There is even a -feature- included in the NVR and camera called "auto maintenance". Can anyone guess what this does? It lets you schedule a reboot of the device on a regular interval which I can only assume is their solution for them dying so often.
