Nice thermostat w/ some software glitches
usaf_drew•January 21, 2017
First off, this is a very attractive little unit. If you're house is filled with the latest gadgetry, you don't want to leave out something as simple as a thermostat on the wall for everyone to see. The colors are vibrant and the layout is pleasing. The touch screen works no problem and never hangs (I don't even know if there is a reboot button), but some presses just don't register fully I guess. Not a big deal since the unit is normally very responsive and the amount of use that the touchscreen will get after initial setup is minimal. There are active and 'sleep' brightness settings for the LCD.
This thermostat has lots of functionality for what it is. You can access a 12-hr brief weather forecast from the touchscreen, view correct time and date and get the outdoor temp and humidity. The iOS app has been flawless and has basic schedule, operation modes and temp setting.
There are two faults that I have encountered with the software. One is minor but the other is a HUGE disappointment. Sometimes, and perhaps only when using the iOS app, the color scheme has changed on its own. I will walk by the unit and notice it's yellow instead of blue. If I tap the LCD, the color changes back. It's only happened two times so like I say not a big deal. The other software glitch that made me remove a star is in the filter reminder. You have the option to set a reminder to change the filter every 90/60/30 days as well as reset the timer. I did this when changing the filter a month ago. I checked the counter recently and it only dropped by one day, or perhaps reset itself the day before. This is aggravating because not only is this function useless, but I relied on it instead of marking the filters. There could be other glitches I haven't found yet.
Overall, this is a nice thermostat. I hope as WIFI-enabled household devices begin to be the norm, the price on things like this will drop. $100+ for a WIFI thermostat is kind of insane if you compare this to any regular $20 programmable thermostat
