Material is solid, polished, and has the expected hue (as shown in the product photo). I use it to grind spices and find that it does the job well. There are more expensive mortar and pestle options out there, but this one works just as well.

I've never owned a mortar and pestle before. It is a practical useful item as well as a charming display in my all white, black and chrome kitchen. There is a little romanticism that I attach to this item from movies and cooking shows. Perfect size for my use. I even crushed a huge RX pill in it to make it into a suspension with honey and water.

Love this! Works great for herbs and spices as well as for medications. There ARE grooves in the mortar where powders can collect but this does not bother me because it does the job so well. I think it is WHY it does the job so well, so easily and so much quicker. It requires less force than regular mortar and pestles.

I love this thing. My previous pestle was wood and was starting to crack and warp. When I moved out of state across the country I left it for my daughter so she would have one. I bought this one several months ago although I don't use it much it's the fact that when I don't have one I need it. It's great. It very stylish, easy to use and didn't break my budget. Thank you
