I recently bought a new Apple TV as an upgrade to my old one for my home office. The old one had an optical out, but latest version does not. The TV in my office has multiple inputs and when I switch from Apple TV input, I would lose the audio I was listening to. Inserting the Audio Extractor has allowed me to continue listening to music as I work. Set up was extremly simple and it does not degrade the audio/video output that I am aware of. Set up was super simple. The only thing that required experimenting was the audio type switch. The directions were not very clear, but after trying all three settings it was clear I needed 5.1. Low cost, simple solution to a problem.
