Did not provide any stabilization at all. I even used the extra foam pads to help fill in space gaps and tightened the straps as tight as I could and there was still too much gap between my leg and the hard outer brace and way too much movement. It was also very loud, you could hear the velcro every step.

This is a super high quality boot, and I was surprised to get it for about $40. I wear a size 11 woman's athletic shoe (10 wide in regular shoe), and have very thick ankles...so I ordered the extra large boot. I'd read a bunch of reviews about the size and felt good about my decision to buy the XL. Wore the boot for three days, but it is actually too big - and without an inflatable liner that allows me to adjust the fit, I can't really use it. Totally my fault for buying something like this without being able to try it on...so I'm not giving a negative review because it was my decision.
The boot is very sturdy construction and was very comfortable in general. The only issue I had with it is that the interior of the boot was too loose. I went to a craft store and bought upholstery foam to try and sculpt the inside a bit more, but it didn't work. I'd already walked on the boot at that point and I knew I couldn't return it. I will donate it to our local shelter, where I'm sure they can put it to good use or sell it in their thrift store.
