Too many voids in the cork!

I'm so happy I can buy this somewhere. I love to post up pictures, make a collage, or a vision board, or whatever you want to call it, then change the pictures around as inspired. I saw it in a fashion magazine the first time. A designer had a whole door of this. It was exactly what I wanted, so I set out to find it, and did!

I bought 2 orders of this (each has 2 pieces so now I have 4 pieces) so I have a big bulletin board on my wall that's organic, pretty, and cool.

It'll arrive in a protective box, and then in plastic wrap. Handle it gently. Use thin nails and they don't have to go into the wall very much to hold it, as it's very light. Personally, I used 3 nails across the top and bottom, and one in the middle of each side. Because it's real cork, and will crumble easily, put the nail not on the very edge, but inside a little bit more.

At that point, you can use push pins. It'll last as long as you live in that house. I did save the box and plastic wrap and moved mine last time. The new place had a smaller space for a bulletin board, so I cut it down to size with a sharp knife. It was a little worse for the wear, but did okay. Now I'm in a new place, planning to stay here a long time, and so happy to have a big board back again!

Looks nice but what a mess! I think it is made up of burnt cork! It smells but the smell is starting to dissipate... but worse, if you touch it it leaves the burnt residue on your hand. I may have to seal it with some kind of lacquer.

Pros: thick enough that thumbtacks won't poke out of the back. Good size. Good price. Cons: The cork sheds a lot and breaks easily. I use it as a message board - prior to use, I sealed it with a coat of polyeurethane and am careful with inserting/removing thumbtacks and so far it works well.
