Olive oil that passes USDA muster
Steven Peterson•December 29, 1969
Recently, media reports suggested that many olive oil producers who labeled their bottles first cold pressed and so,on were not completely accurate. Indeed, stories noted that very few olive oils were deemed Quality Monitored by the United States Department of Agriculture. At the time, I found that vexing. I also found that Pompeian, in fact, Is listed as USDA Quality Monitored.
So, I moved my brand loyalty to this product. I prefer the smooth, since it good for sauteeing, stir frying, and sauces. I have been quite happy with this and feel somewhat reassured that it is "the real deal" in terms of production. The "robust" version is also fine, but I use olive oil more for the purposes of "smooth."
