Great way to have secure storage in a tight space.
Brett F.•October 25, 2017
Sturdy, secure, easy to operate. I had to take a file to the place where the latch contacts the bottom half because build up of paint eliminated all intended tolerances and required a lot of force to twist open. Once I filed away on it for about 30 seconds to remove paint and a small amount of metal it operated perfectly smoothly. Also I wish the foam were cut slightly bigger so it would hold itself into the lid when opening, instead of falling out. I've used some double sided tape to fix which seems to have worked well so far. This is passible safe if you need to store it in a tight place, like under a car seat, in a boat console, or a desk drawer, but with a few tweaks it could be greatly improved.
Locking mechanism doesn't work

My combination lock box did not work. Even with the factory set combination (I tried both that combination and my own) when I tried to lock the box, the mechanism inside (little metal arm that went into a slot) would not line up properly and close. I talked to a customer service person at SnapSafe or whatever company bought them (he was attentive and polite) and was told that it would be best to return it.
I went ahead and bought the XL lock box with the Keyed lock and am much happier with it. Works great as a smallish box to lock up a good sized pistol and ammunition or whatever valuables you might have.

High value peace of mind

My prior sidearm storage was keeping a key in a small cash safe I had, then my handgun in my fireproof safe in the closet. Inefficient. The snapsafesolved all my problems. The safe is extremely high quality. The supplied steel cable anchors it to my nightstand. Inside the X-large, It comfortably holds keys to my fire proof safe, my xd9, an extra xd9 mag, and an extra 10 round ar-15 mag. Really great for plain sight, quick access, storage.
A very good value. Buy the combination lock version, if (like me) you do not want to fool around with a key that might get lost

This is a very good value. I have purchased several plastic pistol cases, which run around $10 to $20. They offer little protection, but allow me to lock up the pistol with a combination padlock (which costs about another $10). This is very solid metal, allows me to lock up the pistol with the included combination lock, and offers the additional advantage of a cable that allows me to secure the gun and case to a stationary object. When you price a $20 plastic case and $10 padlock, you are far ahead to just buy this. For those who care about appearances, this also looks a whole lot better than a $20 plastic case.
It will keep little fingers off

The latch hook did not engage smoothly into the intended slot. I wound up adjusting latch hook with a pair of pliers. Fortunately the box itself is heavy steel and seems to be plenty sturdy. This is perfect for keeping little hands off your gun. The 3 digit code is enough to discourage trial and error fooling around attempting to open. If the locking mechanism had worked properly from the start this would have rated a solid 5. The cable is pretty solid and would deter a thief who is in a hurry breaking into your auto. A good buy for the money.
