My husband is using the 17" HP laptop I used before I got a new one. Before I got him this cooling pad, he was constantly having to let it cool off as it was overheating too easily. Since we got this cooler, he's able to be on it 12 hours at a time if he cares to. And neither one of us are 'gamers.' I bought a new one since and it doesn't work nearly as well as this one, but my newer 17" HP laptop doesn't heat up like the one my husband now uses does, so it suffices, despite the fact that mine is left on almost 24/7/365.

Works great when used on a hard surface. Cannot use while having laptop on your lap or a padded surface (bed or upholstered furniture). If I use it on my lap, I put it on a lap board or something hard to keep the fan open to ventilation. The fans are encased inside the unit, but when blocked on the bottom, the air doesn't circulate well. Avoid having the motor burn out, I am keeping the ventilation open and air available to move around. It is pretty quiet now, will see how it holds up as it ages.

Got this to try and stop my laptop fan from kicking on so often. The Lenovo laptop I have did not have a good heat management design for the chips.
Sadly, this thing is almost as loud as my desktop computer fans. Even turned down to the 'low' speed, they are noticeably loud. I'm not even sure if my laptop fan is kicking on or not, because it is not as loud as this thing is.
It moves air, and works off of USB, which is nice. However you can NOT turn off the LEDs without turning off the fans too.

I have an Alienware R17 laptop. I was concerned about the warmth of my machine so I bought this product. It is a little small for my laptop but it does the job. I used Speedfan to measure the heat of my CPU. As a test I converted 10 videos from 1 format to another with the cooling pad on and the cooling pad off. Speedfan showed the temperature was much cooler while the cooling pad was on.
The USB port works fine, also. Have not had any issues with it syncing my phone, etc. And the fans are quiet. You can hear them but they are so soft, even at the highest speed, that I barely notice them.
The picture is not the greatest but it shows the side view with my laptop overhanging the cooling pad which is the only downside I have seen for this cooling pad.
