My son loves this product.
Cheap trains
Joanne•January 16, 2017
This is the kinkiest train I have ever bought! So disappointed! It didn't even make it around the tree once. It is too lightweight and cheaply made. The cars do not even have bottoms. Pure crap! And not to mention how bad the smoke smells. It smells toxic!!!
Five Stars

This was a surprise birthday gift for my 2-year-old grandson, who has a major fascination for all trains. Although some may consider this an advanced train set for a 2-year old, his father (my now adult son), was also fascinated with trains and we had given him one when he was youngster. Therefore, this served two purposes, a "˜cool' train that can chug around a track for my grandson, yet advanced enough with noises, whistles, headlights and smoke to hold his Dad's interest. I had set up the train in advance so as they entered our home, it was a big surprise as they came in the door and they were both speechless as they approached the train.
The train requires 4 AA batteries (not included) and a Philips screwdriver to undo the battery compartment that's on the underside of the locomotive.
The track is plastic and it's very easy to set up, taking under a minute as each section slides into another. The train consists of 4 cars; the locomotive contains the batteries and pulls the other three and they connect by sliding a straight plastic shaft from one train car into the plastic loop of the next one in line. A slide switch on the side of the main locomotive operates movement, sound, lights and the smoke.
Minor Challenges and Solutions:
1. Challenge:
When the operating switch slides on, the locomotive tends to lurch forward, slides off the track and separates itself from the next car in line.
Solution:
Gently and firmly hold the locomotive down as the switch powers on and then gently let go. This will keep the locomotive wheels on the track, and the car behind remains attached.
2. Challenge:
If the train is set to run counter clockwise, then you have to step into the middle of the track to catch the locomotive to turn off the operative switch.
Solution:
Set the train to run clockwise, the switch is more convenient on the outer part of the locomotive and facing outwards from the track.
3. Challenge and Solution:
When I had the train set up on our hard tile floor, the train went around once or twice and eventually derailed. However, when I pulled the track on our carpet, it ran much better and never derailed at all. I don't know why this kept happening, perhaps some tiles are a little higher than some of the others are, whereas our carpet may provide a better flexible surface and absorb any vibrations from the train.
In conclusion, this is a great train set with realistic chugging, train whistles, bright headlights and a little smoking chimney. My son enjoyed running the train, and my grandson had so much fun putting little items in the one empty freight car. Additionally, when my son got up to stretch and take a break, my grandson ran just the locomotive on the hard tile floor, and he was very content to watch the locomotive chug down our long hallway all on its own.
I have provided two videos of this train. The first part shows how well the train runs on our carpet, and the second video will show the derailment issue when the track is on our hard tile floor.
