Would have been even better if I ordered the correctly keyed model. Totally my fault.
BE WARNED!! There are several different M.2 key patterns. This one is keyed "E". I needed "B". I've seen "A" and "M" on Amazon as well. Who knows what other letters are out there.

I have the "Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 for Desktop" which had a 7260 in MHC form factor. This shim was perfect to covert the MHC socket on the PCIe adapter to M.2 for the 9260. Everything seems to work perfectly!
Note: you need new "MHF4 to SMA" cables (I used this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GNFPNM6), the button connectors on the 9260 are smaller than the ones on the 7260. The 7260 desktop kit comes with "U.FL to SMA" cables
