Good But Wish Cord Was Longer
Maddie Healy✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 23, 2017
This thing works well and I've used it to convert old casette recorded home videos to digital and store in my Google Drive. The product does everything it says it does and I've recommended it to cousins who were looking to also digitize their videos, however, I do wish the cord was a little longer beause it can get cumbersome and bulky trying to keep the USB connected to your computer and the camcord plugged into the yellow, white, and red cords. Also, I didn't realize this but in order to record the video from the camcorder you have to rewing all the way back to the beginning on my model by holding down the button which was really time-consuming. But, I mean, all in all, it's worth it to be able to preserve timeless memories for generations.
An altogether solid and well priced choice, but with some minor issues

I recently purchased the MyGica Capit to digitize some old VHS baby videos. As part of a recent project, I have been consolidating all of my photos and videos into one library. Knowing that magnetic mediums, such as VHS, only have a certain lifespan, I also thought I should go about digitzing my tapes.

After doing some research, I realized my options were to either send the VHS's out to a professional, which could be pricey, or digitize them myself with an adapter such as this - so I purchased the adapter.

I definitely made the right choice. When I received the disk with the product, I was easily able to install the software onto my Windows 10 computer - none of the issues that I saw in some other reviews (I think they updated the software). I grabbed an old VHS player we had lying around, hooked it up to the Capit, and got to work. When you record the video, you have the option of having the software stop recording after a certain amount of time, or you can manually stop it whenever you want. It also records in real time - there's really not any other way it could work anyways - and I enjoyed watching and listening to the preview as it recorded.

My only issue is the post production options in the software. Even though including an ability to edit the clips, and add things like text was a nice thought for the included software in such well priced device, it was really a huge pain, and the export to file option would not work for me. So, I ended up popping the videos into Sony Vegas 13, and cropping, editing, and rendering them there, instead; however, if you do not have another editing software, you may just be out of luck.
Works great! Simple, inexpensive, does the job very well.

For capturing analogue video, this device worked perfectly on my Win 10 laptop (i7 with 8Gb membory). Installed with the CD, connected the 3 cables to my 1998 Cannon Mini-DV camcorder, hit Play on and then Capture on Arc software it started to create an mpeg2 file on my computer. About 2 Gb per hour. One thing is that it keeps capturing even when the 1 hour long tape has ended- so you've got to come back and stop it when the tape is done (I accidentally captured an extra 18 Gb of nothing).

The Edit feature is non-intuitive - I still have not quite figured it out - apparently you can mark a start and end to an existing mpeg and move that segment to a new file or build a project out of segments. Great price under $20, delivered within a week. I shopped for weeks before getting this one and I am quite happy. I have captured 16 Mini-DVs into mpegs on my laptop.
Runs well...if, your processor and ram are good

This product works well. First, you must understand copy vs. capture. Google it. Then, you must realize that anytime you are going from digital via an analog (even a video tape) end product. ..there will be quality loss. Remember the old Xerox problem...a copy of a copy of a copy...you can still read it, but! Also, give yourself enough time to monkey with settings...especially audio. Try different settings on audio until you master that. You do have some brightness and contrast functions too. For me it works very well...and even though I've found no way to change the mpeg setting to convert to mp4...that's not a game changer. Videosteam off Google will fire that puppy very well. I think I would advise anyone who wants to play in this game to think twice about your computing capabilities. I'm running an i7 with 8 gig of ram...and all is well. But...if I put the software on my old laptop with a celeron processor...it would fail.
A nice unit for the low cost.

I've had assorted video capture devices before, and if you are looking to capture video at S-VHS quality this unit will do fine. Unlike a lot of video capture devices that have more or less the same physical design, this one has drivers that are Windows 10 there would ,compatible, and mine worked fine out of the box. Load them from the cd, or download them from the website first, before you plug the device into a USB port. Since you are doing an analog capture, there is no big disadvantage to its USB 2.0 configuration. The Arcsoft showbiz software sets up easily, the install key is on the flap of the envelope the CD is packaged in. Now of course, I'd love to have an HDMI input, with the requisite USB 3.0 interface for the much bigger data stream that would be involved, but for the money, this is a decent unit for getting rid of all those old analog tapes in the closet.
