Make better time and avoid getting 'tagged'.
Mikel R. Berry•May 13, 2018
This is an excellent radar detector. It will allow you to make better time, and avoid speeding citations. With X, K, Ka and laser detection, it can alert you of passive AND active radar from both in front and behind. It's sensitivity and range are outstanding. You will know about active radar long before the radar gun user knows you are there. Like all detectors, it will alert you to the 'instant on' radar when it's triggered. So, if it's not triggered on another vehicle before you, you can still get 'tagged'. But, this is true with all detectors. K band is also used for those automatic doors at many retail stores. So, you will have to learn to distinguish those from K band radar guns. This detector uses different sound patterns for each type of radar, so you can easily tell what your approaching. Therre are cheaper detectors. But, with them, you increase your chances of getting 'tagged'. If you're on the road a lot, I highly recommend this product.
Pays for itself. Works good.

Adding to my review:
I've now had this for a few months now, Detected 5 speed traps - Speed trap tickets 0. Also detected dozens of police cars long before I even seen them.
Original review: This detector works very well. I would say it has paid for itself. There are 2 reasons why I did not give it 5 Stars. First, the window bracket is a bit flimsy. When I used it I still rested it on the dash. Now, I don't even use it. I set it on one of those sticky pads.
Second, the display is way out dated. It is red when scanning and red when warning. For the cost I would expect a better display.
Overlooking those shortcomings I am pleased at the way the sound decreases after a few seconds. Having it beep constantly like it did on the original passport was annoying. So this is a good feature. Also, the filtering of non Police radar from storefronts and other cars lane check radar works very well. Keep in mind, it still picks them up, but you can tell it is not Police radar.
I've had it pick up a radar trap about 1 mile away with the alert at full blast. Definitely worth the cost of the detector.

Great value

After doing research, this radar detector has the exact same chip as the X70 and is half the price. Field testing shows this matches and even exceeds the X70 and the passport max (4x the price) at detecting Ka (70% of all radar guns used in the US). Matches the X70 on all other wavelengths. So what, it doesn't have a color screen and show the speed limit. Is that what you want a radar detector for? Auto-muting and sensitivity modes work great.
If you want to get a really good radar detector but $300-$600 seems a little steep, this is the one.
USEFUL TIP:
Get some of those velcro-like command strips to attach it to the dash. It gives you a little more cord length to work with, makes removing simple, is considered an optimal location for both radar and laser, and won't ruin your dash.

Don't waste money on anything priced less than this

Don't waste money on anything priced less than this. I have owned numerous radar detectors and have gone cheap a time or two and I was most pleased with the Passport 8500 several years ago, and this model works as well as my older 8500 model. I just returned from a long road trip after having this for almost a month now and it performed perfectly. Several mile advance notice for both K and KA radar. I had a speed trap set up by Fl Hwy Patrol a few weeks ago and I was the lead car going over a bridge in which they were on the other side with a radar gun set up and with no cars in front of me I still received about a 1/4 mile notice and avoided a major trap location. It paid for itself that day and this past trip was all free heads ups. DONT fall from hype from cheaper detectors and stick with Passport/Escort or Valentine and maybe Belltronics. The others just don't deliver like this does. I felt 100% covered at 90 miles per hour and it makes driving longer distances so much less stressful looking for hiding cops. Thanks
Very good

I have used this detector for a couple months , and it does not go off in the false alarm areas where my other detector did, , the range is about 1 mile , I highly recommend this device,
