I've given this product a one star in case you, like me, think it is something it's not. I purchased this product to enliven my coconut cream pies for which I'm famous amongst my family and friends. First of all, this package is less coconut ( less than 5%) and more the cream component ( Yes, I know it is labeled Creamed Coconut but the description says it is good for pies so I inferred there would be a greater percentage of coconut which would be expected for making a coconut cream pie). Secondly, it was amazingly tasteless. I've eaten coconut fresh off the tree while in the Tropics many times and that natural coconut was far sweeter and infinitely more flavorful than this. So what you're getting here, if you're a pie maker, is tasteless cream with a little bit of coconut. I should add that I did try adding a lot of sugar to make this a usable component for my coconut cream pies but it was to no avail, I ended up with a sweet but still tasteless product.

Coconut cream and coconut milk are products use in West Indies cooking, especially when making rice and peas. It is something that my family has made all my life and that I am now trying to prepare myself. The brand of coconut cream is the one that my mother uses and it provides delicious flavor in her rice and peas dishes.

This creamed coconut came in a nice retail package. It was to separate 5 oz. packages. The ingredients say the coconut is from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, or Thailand. There are 5 servings pero contained and each one is 210 calories and 180 calories from fat. The coconut is not all cream. The coconut oil separated from the cream when I placed it in the refrigerator. You can tell by the color. The oil has a slight coconut flavor and the cream is slightly sweet and has a grainy/paste kind of texture. The instructions to create fresh coconut milk say to: mix 4 oz. of hot water and 1 oz. of cox cream, blend to even consistency. I made the cream but it still has that grainy texture. I was hoping it would be a velvet texture on my mouth. I added some of the coconut oil, but the texture didn't change. This cream would be good in baking as it can blend pretty well with a batter and maybe not feel the grainy texture. Overall, it's a good product but not meant to create milk out of it.
