Very Traditional

I grew up with a Dutch mother savoring Dropkes. I thought I'd try these from Amazon rather than the more expensive Klene brand. They were wonderful! I buy these semi-regularly now for myself and my daughter. When we had a family reunion, my Dutch aunts even loved them so I know it's not just me. Definitely recommend if you are a fan of Dubbel Zout licorice!
Can you say YUM?!

GREAT STUFF! I live off of salty black licorice! Sweet dreams are made of this!! No joke!! It's not really, really super salty candy like I have had in my life, but this a level saltier than the average person would probably appreciate. More for me!
Yummy authentic Dutch licorice.

Very satisfying salty Dutch licorice taste for anyone with licorice cravings. Yes, the double salt especially is an acquired taste and not for everyone. I thoroughly enjoy these, the firm and chewy rounds are the perfect size and flavor. I will likely order Gustaf's 'Coins', which are said to be less intense. Made in Holland, couldn't be more authentic.
Very nice authentic Dutch Double Zout taste

Very nice authentic Double Zout taste. Strong salt flavour with a solid liquorice taste underneath. These go down really well - if you like Dubble Zout liquorice (which is not for everybody).

These are coin shaped, about the size of a dime, but 2-3 times thicker than a dime, with the authentic DZ letters embossed on them. Texture is rough, not shiny, and they have a good bite to them while not sticking to your teeth too much as you start chewing (that's usually considered a very good texture for Dutch hard liquorice). The taste starts out strong and salty, then reduces and turns into standard Dutch liquorice flavour as you suck the rest of the candy.

The product itself is manufactured in Holland by an undisclosed factory, then packaged for the American market in a dedicated all English written shiny blueish/grey bag of 150g, complete with a little story of the Gustaf brand, website and nutritional values. The suggested serving size is 40g (which is probably 4x more than what even the biggest liquorice lover would/could have of these in one sitting).

As many have pointed out, this liquorice is not for everybody. Even seasoned veterans might find Double Salt too much, and generally you woudn't be expected to start with a liquorice this strong. There are less salty variants, like the Venco Jubes or Gustaf's Coins, and you'd slowly progress to Dubble Zout when you're ready. Much like dark chocolate lovers wouldn't start eating 90% dark chocolate right away, they'd try 40% first, then slowly increase the darkness as much as they like. It's the same with Dutch liquorice.

In comparison to the Venco Dubble Zout: I'd say the saltiness level is about the same, but the liquorice taste you get underneath has a very different flavour. Venco is much softer and has a smoother edge that goes down like a fine sherry, whereas Gustaf's is a little more stiff and ends abruptly. For me, Venco is the winner, but that's purely a personal taste.
Properly (very) salty...salmiak licorice.

The Gustaf's Traditional Dutch Double Salt Licorice (5.2 Oz Bag) is as promised...extra salty. If you like the potent, almost astringent taste of "salty liquorice" you'll like this double-salt licorice. Salty licorice, salmiak/salmiakki, is licorice ("liquorice" in the standard/British spelling) flavored with ammonium chloride. It's most common in Scandinavia, northern Germany, and the Netherlands. If you've never tried salty licorice before, you should be aware that it's generally considered an acquired taste, and enjoying regular black licorice is no guarantee that you'll like salty licorice. (I happen to like both!) You might want to try the Gustaf's regular salty licorice (not "double salt") first, and if you like it then try this double-salt version.

Each piece of Gustaf's Traditional Dutch Double Salt Licorice is about 2 cm wide, about 7 mm tall, matte black and chewy yet much firmer than typical licorice in the US/Canada or soft, sweet liquorice candies like the allsorts style.
