As others have stated, the knobs are basically useless. Knowing this, I slowly increased the heat at very small increments, but it went from 0 to 300 degrees at a random increment and destroyed my experiment. I should have been even more careful and measured the heat more often, but who would have thought it would be so inaccurate! Other than that, it works fine.

Great hot plate /stirrer for making solutions to grow crystals. Will bring cold water to a boil (600 ml beaker) in about 15 minutes. Stirrer is powerful for such a small unit. Will continue to mix a beaker full of heavy, saturated copper sulfate solution, with crystals falling out of solution. I have my unit in use 12 hours a day with no problems.
