Just what the doctor ordered
TekGeek✓ Verified Purchase•July 17, 2017
First of all, I'm not a hat guy. I don't typically where a hat, but I needed seething for summer days on the trap range. The large brim is just what the doctor ordered, it does a great job keeping the sun out of my eyes. It may be my imagination but I believe it actually keeps me a little cooler, perhaps keeping the sun off my head and face makes the difference.
I didn't think I would have a use for the string, in fact I didn't want it at first, but I decided to take the hat along on vacation, and wore it while wandering around in a beach town while my wife perused the shops. It was actually handy to be able to sling the hat over my back when in the shops, then slide it back on once outside. It is a simple matter to remove the string if necessary by untying the knots if so desired.
As far as the fit is concerned, again I'm not a hat guy so I really don't know how snug a hat is supposed to be. I measured my head to be 23.5", so I ordered a large. The fit seemed a little loose so I cut a 1" strip of an old dish towel and stuffed it in between the sweat band and the hat. That slight adjustment was just enough to keep it from blowing off in a strong breeze. As I said the primary function of the hat is to keep the sun out of my eyes on the trap range, where both of my hands are typically occupied, so grabbing the hat every time a strong breeze kicks up is not an option.
Quality and workmanship of the hat are both top notch. It is just as pictured. Overall I'm very happy, for a non-hat guy.

Both cool and practical

Both cool and practical, an awesome hat.
I got this for a trip up to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. It's a great hat all around. It kept the sun off of me, looked awesome, and is flexible. Before I went on the trip I gave it two good coats of water proofing. Side note - DO NOT spray Deet on it. So it kept the rain off when it did rain, kept the sun off the rest of the time, kept the ticks off - to the point where I kept this thing on almost the entire time on my 8 day trip. So it was comfortable and very practical. A couple months later I went on an overnight backpacking trek. More hiking, no canoeing. So I'm wearing this hat, and one of the big advantages is that the rim has an internal wire. So I bent the back of the hat up so it wouldn't keep hitting my backpack. It worked amazingly well. When I was done, I bent it back down. So it's flexible. Add to Cart.
The waterproofing treatment was great, and if you plan to use this in the outdoors, give it two good coats. The Deet thing; I sprayed it on the underside of the brim, Deep Woods Off 25% Deet, and it ate through the water proofing and left white-ish spots. Not a big deal, it makes it look more weathered, but I would not do it again and I'm worried if I had sprayed more, what it would have done to the the fabric. It showed signs of distress, but not too much. The integrity of the hat has held up just fine, just don't spray deet on it thinking that it's going to keep the bugs away (it had no effect) and that it won't ruin your awesome hat.

Great Fit, great look

My husband has a giant head... seriously - freaking huge. He has tried the largest of hats we can find in stores - even at big and tall stores or sporting goods stores - nothing fit. I ordered this as a Fathers Day gift for him, and surprised him with it and a trip to the Zoo with our toddler - HE LOVED IT! It fit perfectly. Its comfortable cotton, so it doesn't get too warm, but its firm enough that it doesn't just fold on itself... and it looks great! Perfect weathered-appearance.

Fantastic hat! A bit large as I ordered an x large for head size slightly over 24 inches, but that was perfect because I cut a 24 inch by 1 inch strip from edge of a towel and tucked inside the intertior headband. That was genius, as it fits perfectly now, and allows me to periodically wash the towel strip, and saves the hat from undue sweating. I have never had such a wonderful hat! Looks great like weathered leather but mostly cotton, lightweight, shaped outback style, allows for strap to be tucked over back of hat or employed to keep from strong breezes. I live in south Florida. Make use of the slightly larger size to incorporate a washable sweatband. How could you do better! Of all the products I have bought on Amazon, this is the only time I recall being moved to write a review.
Love this hat!!!!!

It looks amazing, even better than I had thought but definitely looks like the photo here. I know some were saying they got there's and the color was different but, mine is exactly if not nicer than the photos. MEASURE your head! If anything, take a piece of string and use that to put next to a ruler or something to guage. I have a big head, about 22 1/2, got the Medium and it fits perfectly snug so, be sure you measure yer noggin first! I love how easily you can shape it, it's just perfect! It can really be instantly shaped to have so many versitle styles, it's seriously the best hat and you will not regret it. I am already considering getting the one in Black I love it so much!
