Awesome popcorn for my whirly pop
RickyB✓ Verified Purchase•January 30, 2018
Terrific Popcorn for my stovetop whirly pop. So far, has made the best popcorn I have ever had. I got it at a very reasonable price. I was getting to reorder but the price doubled to over $20!!! :-( As a result I switched to another highly recommended brand. Hasn't arrived so I will review separately.
BTW, the recipe I used had been published elsewhere but also gets 5 stars from me:
1/2 cup popcorn
2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
1 tsp flavacol

Wy wife loves her popcorn and I get to make it. This stuff pops very well leaving very few unpopped. She loves it.
that is to say completely and utterly worth buying and super happy with purchase

This is heavy, this chock-full, that is to say completely and utterly worth buying and super happy with purchase.
If you are like me and want an egregious, superfluous, preposterous amount of popcorn, serious this is for you. If and when I run out, I'm buying this bad boy again. Fantastic price, fantastic product.
It's popcorn, and the kernels pop into what you expect, what more can be said?

We love this popcorn. Also pops up big and fluffy and tastes like theater popcorn.

So many variables w. popcorn from the corn itself to how you pop and store - well, anyway, I use IKEA's Oumbarlig 5 quart stockpot which IMO is the best stovetop popper I have ever had - e.g. just the right size for a big aluminum bowl of popcorn - and you don't have to overshake. Peanut oil for the high smoke point. 1/4 cup oil + 1 cup of this popcorn. I don't exactly follow the directions and I don't know how this works w. an air popper. I do get some unpopped kernels but IMO not excessive.
Been working my way thru every popcorn brand Amazon carries. So - this one - IMO this is a robust chewy corn; good flavor; good all around popcorn that can stand up to the melted margarine and cheese powder I throw on my popcorn. Think it would be good for popcorn balls. IMO not the best choice for those w. dental work or delicate mouths etc. (IMO so far the very most tender I have tried is the "red" popcorn types - so far for me the most tender has been the Amish red, but that variety is so tender it breaks up under the butter and cheese flood I put on my popcorn. Turns into a kind of popcorn mush at the bottom of the bowl). This variety has a good chew to it; at least the jar I got. I don't mean tough - it's just robust when popped. Not delicate like some white popcorns. Reminds me of Pop Secret but w. more "corn" flavor (tho that is a subtle difference - the most nutty corn I have tried is the Amish purple).
Re this Northern brand I didn't notice any particular hull problem, but I don't have a big issue in that area. IMO this is just a good robust corn that pops into medium to large kernels. Shipped tightly and has over a year expiration. A lot of my popped corn had big puffy pops - almost like mushroom corn - anyway I'll be happily eating the whole jar. Good for popping and taking to work next day, too.
