I had seen some reviews on this that made me hesitate but it was the only thing that was just what I was looking for and the price was right. I'm sure it will get stained and gross but at the end of the day my kid isn't little forever and I'd imagine by the time he's tired of having it it will be ready to chunk anyway. Zipper zips easy. There are short strings on the zipper to help you grab it if the zipper gets behind it while open. Easy to clip and Unclip when you're tired of it. Seems to sit just right for my 5 year old to be able to use it as intended. Overall good deal for the money.

So this review is based on 9 months of constant use by my 8 year old daughter. I bought two of these--one for each of my kids--for a long road trip. My older child used his for the trip but hasn't used it much since. My daughter keeps her permanently installed and uses it every time we are in the car.
I would rate this product three stars except for the fact that it is the only thing I found like it so there aren't really a lot of other options. It does have some pretty major flaws though.
First of all, it is not wipable and the fabric is not water proof so any spill soaks through to whatever board it is lined with--probably a heavy cardboard. It is the nature of kids to spill anything that is remotely spillable so her tray is predictably gross and stained and there's not a thing I can do about it. See photo. That's just a basic ice cream spill (and probably a drink or two. Who knows. LOL).
The other most annoying design issue is that it's pretty hard to zip closed because the zipper pull is short and gets stuck way back in a crease. So it's not an easy thing to close it away when you want to get out of the car. We have basically given up on closing it so it's just always in the way.
But on the plus side, she does use it a lot and it helps her do the many things she wants to do while we are driving. With as much time as we spend in the car, this is helpful. Not sure how much longer it will hold up. For the price I'm hoping for at least a year of use.
