I laid down found under to protect the enamel coating on the camp fire grate, and used it plain on the camp burner. The handles do get HOT!
It's perfect if you have a large family, especially if you have multiple teenagers. I used it for a few one pot meals while camping, and it's the perfect size that they're fed, and it's not full to the top and/or overflowing.

So this is my first dutch oven, and I didn't want to spend the money on a le creuset for my first piece.
I love the oval shape (I bought the 7qt) and the size of the cooking surface area. The handles are durable and still easy to grip with oven mits on. It's got some weight to it but that's expected when you've cooked with large cast iron pieces - nothing heavier than I figured.
I've cooked a buffalo chicken sauce on the stove then in the oven and braised some london broil. It deglazed beautifully with a nice rubber spatula and some wine, I was very happy with the clean-up.
