Looks nice, extra exit door a must for stray cats.
HappyCampers✓ Verified Purchase•October 7, 2023
Shipped quickly & package came well packaged/no damage. Instructions were easy to follow. This is the second of this house I have purchased as my stray cats like it but did not want to share. Having a second exit is a must to keep them secure & safe. Also for stray cats recommend you start with one door flap on and one off. As they adjust to it you can put on second door flap and see if they use it. (One of my more feral cats will not get in with both flaps on.) I also had to elevate the house to get one of them to use it. He would not get in it when it was just on the deck.
Fits nicely under the eaves of our house and I like the looks of the house. I question how insulating this is/not enough for a Michigan winter. I used reflectix insulation and doubled it. Taped all seams. Cost an extra $27 for the insulation. Wish it didn't have plastic screws/hope they hold up. Overall happy with purchase.

No more sad wet cat at my window
Ashley G.✓ Verified Purchase•October 4, 2023
An outdoor orange cat showed up won't stop coming to our house for the past few months. Even when it rains she keeps trying to come in our house. She would sit at the window pawing it, making sad squeegee sounds. My parents aren't cat people, so I couldn't bring her in. I finally decided to get the cat house because seeing her soaked like that made me so sad!
The cat house has been a good compromise for the cat. I put it together myself. It was simple to do. The house has stayed dry during the rain and we placed a cushion mat inside for her comfort. We added food and water bowls for her too.
The joke is on me though because when I saw her today to visit she had a collar. Turns out she's not a stray, she has owners a few houses down the street. I guess she just likes our garden more? Still doesn't tell me why she'd sit in the pouring rain trying to get in our house and not go home. Oh well, at least she's not pawing at our windows during rainstorms now. I can rest easy knowing she has a safe place in her kitty house if she choses to stay in our yard.

door plastic let's cold air in

The plastic is about as thin as one could make it. Sad. The way they are attached is CHEAPLYdesigned. Air gaps all the way around , so a light wind blows them in and out. I think I will have to go buy some different plastic and redesign it. That's what you get when you order stuff online and you can't see it before you buy it. For a cat shelter that they call a winter shelter, it doesn't look very buttoned up to me. It's like leaving your doors about 1-in open through the winter time. Sometimes I wonder about the people that are designing this stuff. I think they've got their heads in the clouds LOL. I will have to buy a heating pad for it.
I put food inside for my one feral cat and she goes inside to eat it. I don't know if she is sleeping in it yet or not.
Update ; She goes inside.
It's been in 1 hard rain. On the Left side , no roof overhang , water did splash through the door , the too small plastic door couldn't stop it, since I'm sure it was blowing in & out. Fine for wonderful weather.
As for insulating the inside , I can't see how that would make very much difference , you'll be losing the heat through the openings in the door , and getting cold air coming in through the openings around the door. Going to have to fasten some Marine plastic over the door. Cats can always figure out how to open it.
So my suggestion would be to have the roof overhang on both sides where you have a door and make the doors fit better.

Cat loves it

I have noticed a cat hanging out on my 2-acre property for a couple of years. It was always hunting and after 2 years, I decided to try giving it some cat food. I put a bowl of food down then went back into the house. The cat ate it and then decided it was my cat. It plopped itself down at my backdoor but I couldn't bring it into the house because my cat would probably try to kill it. This cat has been around people and wants lots of affection.
Since this outside cat wouldn't leave my back door, I put a wicker chair out for it to sit on. I added a foam cushion. The cat would sleep in the chair out in the open all night, even when the temp was in the 20s. One night I noticed it was raining and the cat was still in the chair. I have a little overhand on the roof above the chair so the whole chair wasn't getting soaked but part of it was. I threw a tarp over the chair and the cat loved that even more.
A couple of nights later, it got windy. The cat didn't like the wind blowing the tarp around. I was able to secure the tarp by putting some of it under the chair legs, but cats don't like wind and especially when it is blowing a tarp.
I decided to get a cat house and looked at several on Amazon. I chose this one because it was very popular. There was a bit of a wait getting it delivered--not the only thing I ever ordered on Amazon that was supposed to be here in 2-3 days but took over a week.
It was fairly easy to put together. The only thing that would have made it quicker was knowing the longer screws are for the roof. I had to unscrew some that I used in the wrong spots.
The cat didn't want to go into the cat house with the plastic flaps down, so I taped one of the flaps up and now she will go in. It has been about 3 weeks since she started using it and she is very happy in her little house. I put the foam cushion on the floor of it and a wool throw blanket on top of that. She is out of the rain and seems very happy. Maybe eventually I will get her and my other cat to tolerate each other and I can bring her into my house.

Feral Cat House
Alain J.✓ Verified Purchase•August 5, 2023
This house is sturdy and allows two entrance/exit areas in case the feral cat is trapped by an intruder (an escape opening is important). Hope this cat likes his/her new house. I set it up last night, just in time for the freeze warnings in my area. I also purchased a waterproof heat pad (no electricity required) and some straw to maximize warmth (per the feral cat guidelines I found online). Hope this little kitty makes it thru the winter, I have lots of food to put out. The kitty runs away anytime I approach, but gulps down the canned food I leave out.
