Program isn't meeting my basic needs
MinidiscbobFebruary 19, 2017
I purchased this software (ver. 4.0.7) with the intent of transferring my vinyl albums to CD. I like using the Advanced Mode because it lets me record the whole side of a record as one file and then use the auto split feature to separate the tracks. It does this by inserting "track" marks where there is an extended period of silence. I can actually fine tune this because these marks aren't always perfect. You can then go in and title each track with artist name before you burn or "publish" each CD. The audio quality is excellent.

Now for the bad news. Apparently you can only add one file that has been edited by tracks to each burned CD. To get around this, you will have to flip your vinyl record to the other side while the program is still recording so you can edit one big file at the end. Also, you cannot save an edited file. So if you accidently exit the program you have to redo the track mark editing and titling all over again. The worse part, at least for me, is that there is a very annoying loud click where the splits or track marks take place.

Lastly, I was willing to work with this thinking maybe I was missing some of the features in the program so I called Videobox customer support. The person I got really had a terrible attitude. When I addressed the above concerns to him, his reply was that this is just a basic recording software and I was expecting too much. I'm sorry but I thought my $70 was worth a lot more!!!
Nice product.

I have an old CD writer and had been using that to create CDs from my cassette tapes. It could get a bit laborious and I usually then took the CD and downloaded the files onto my computer anyway. So now we have this Vidbox Audio Recorder device which comes with software cables and the converter device. I am not really that computer tech savvy, but it was relatively a breeze for me to install the software and get this thing running. If you have problems, they have "free U.S.-based live support." With this device, you can turn the recordings into MP3s, WAV files, audio CDs and MP3 CDs. I won't say that it gives professional results, but since the company is not claiming that it does, it is a non-issue. One thing that is possible is using higher quality RCA cables to plug into the device, which may improve the sound slightly. Other-than-that, I am very pleased with the whole process and the quality of the recordings. As far as transferring record albums, you can do that but the initial transfer will have all the pops and bumps that you hear on the album. There is software, that can help improve the sound, etc., but I found that a bit hard to get a good result and decided to skip that feature. On albums that are readily available and that you can't live without, the no brainer is to buy a CD version of it, but if you are like me and have some great jazz records that you inherited that were never released on CD, go for it! The results are perfectly good in most cases without even having to adjust anything, and it is so easy to use. I now have a slew of my old format recordings on my iPod and I'm very happy!
Pretty easy to set up and the result is amazing

I am not a tech type person and even for me this was not hard to set up. I did have to call the customer service for a couple of questions and they were answered promptly and helped get the connection right.

I have sooooooooo much 'stuff' from the 60's, 70's and 80's that might be lost forever if I don't get it downloaded to another source. I have started, but it is going to be a long process just because there is so much and it's all keeper stuff like The Ventures,The Beach Boys, KISS and on and on from country western to classical to pop.

This VIDBOX is my answer. I had tried other products and always ended up sending them back for one reason or another.

Based on my experience so far with the connection, the help from customer service, etc., I would recommend this product.

So you have your old cassette tapes and LP records from the 1970s and 1980s sitting around in boxes. The tapes are deteriorating, but you'd like to listen to them. Vidbox audio recorder is an innovative way to convert all of your music (LPs, cassettes, and 8-track tapes) into digital MP3 or WAV files so that you can create your own audio CDs or listen to them on your mp3 device.

I'm surprised no one has thought of this sooner. Using the usb audio conversion device (the MUZBOX) which connects via an rca connection to your playback device, and your computer, You can also improve the audio quality and volume with a normalizer and reduce noise or static.

The device allows you to organize your music. It automatically separates multiple track recordings into single audio files by detecting the gaps between tracks. It will allow you to add an identification tag including the artist, song and album titles.

It's a great invention and is the answer to what to do with your favorite tapes or LPs. They also have a dedicated consumer help line to provide free support.

VIDBOX Audio Recorder:
4/5 stars - use higher quality RCA stereo cable for best results

- included in the box other than the RCA to USB device itself is a USB cable, a 10 ft RCA to RCA stereo audio cable, a 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter, quick start guide and, VIDBOX Audio Recorder software installation CD.
- very easy to hook up use and use
- The included USB device allows you to connect any analog audio source to your computer via USB to listen to and/or record/convert into digital MP3 or WAV format.
- On caveat: when you plug the device into your computer, be sure to go to Control Panel...Sound...Recording tab, select Microphone (2- USB MUZBOX) checkbox, click Properties and on the Listen tab, checkbox "Listen to this device", and click ok a few times to save that setting. That will allow you to listen to the audio, even as it is recording using the include software.
- The included software, VIDBOX Audio Recorder software was easy to install and has 2 modes of use:
- Wizard mode allows you to convert from any analog audio source into MP3 files, and burn them to Audio CDs or MP3 CDs. It will also auto split tracks into separate MP3s. This mode will automatically save record the audio as: MP3 16-bit Stereo, 48000 Hz sample rate, 192 kbps bitrate; and automatically split tracks.
- Advanced mode allows you to convert from any analog audio source into MP3s or WAV files, and burn them to Audio CDs or MP3 CDs; and also lets you edit audio clips into multiple tracks, remove static, and adjust the volume of each track. This mode allows more control, editing of audio tracks, and allows you to save audio in different formats and quality: WAV (Mono/Stereo and 44100/48000 Hz sample rate) or MP3 (Mono/Stereo and 44100/48000 Hz sample rate, 64/96/128/160/192/224 Kbps bitrate)
- One recommendation would be to use a higher quality, better shielded, audio RCA stereo cable to connect your audio device to the unit for best results.

Note, as with any analog to digital conversion it will take time to convert your collection of vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks, etc.
