Good alternative for expensive hearing aids

I bought these for my 9w yr. father. He has problems searing hearing aids. These go over the ear and you talk into a speaker. The receiver has a clip so they attach to clothing easily. We adjust them before he puts them on and now understands us and communicates more and talks during conversations. A sell spent $69.
Volume control confusing for elderly

In order to turn the volume up you need to roll the dial down, and to turn it down you have to roll the dial up - which is totally backwards! My dear 82 year old mother has memory issues and constantly rolls the dial in the wrong direction. So she turns it up when she's trying to turn it down, and when you turn it up too high you hear annoying feedback. Otherwise, she can hear better with this gadget than she can with her $3K hearing aids! I'm so glad I bought it for her! Now we can have a conversation without me having to yell (as long as she has the volume up!)!

These were bought for my father in law. He wears it in church, and it seems to work fine. He really needs hearing aids but refuses to wear them, so this was a compromise. They don't work well in a loud or crowded environment, it amplifies everything.

My handicapped brother is deaf. A man of few words, he refuses to wear hearing aids. He doesn't like anything inside his ears. But when we got the head phones with microphone, we began to talk. I went slowly because he's not used to being able to hear. Therefore only 10 minutes a day, then 15, etc.
