Everything snapped right in and fit like a glove
Stephen MetzgerJuly 26, 2017
Everything snapped right in and fit like a glove. The case comes already assembled/snapped together, so you have to be a little careful in figuring out how to get it apart without damaging it. The Pi3 and receiver components all fit right in and the whole thing clicks together nicely. I have used this ADS-B receiver on a couple of flights and already I cannot imagine being without it when flying in congested airspace. Bravo.
The Summit case is one of the best cases available, but still needs improvement.

The Summit case is one of the best cases available, but still needs improvement.

The Good:
Looks Great
Has all the port cut outs necessary
SD card easily accessible
USB ports easily accessible
Has threaded mount for camera stand or suction mount
Is one of the more durable cases available.

The Improvements Needed:
Holes for the antenna need to be on the sides like other cases. Preferably BELOW the Rasp Pi motherboard. It would make room for cables, allow for easier folding of the antennas (they stick straight out in the stock position and is not safe to store in a flight bag), AND allow the AHARS chip to be installed without interference. (I really SHOULD add a picture of my mods.)
Top side vents need to be filled in and openings to the USB compartment need to be opened up. The receivers tend to run hot and they need fresh air.
Better fan needed.
Options to mount the fan on the OUTSIDE (or top) of the case needed (AHARS chip clearance again)
Screws to mount the Pi to the lower case should be included

Great Box !
Well-designed, solid case
Ian JohnstonApril 3, 2017
I bought this to replace a more generic Raspberry Pi case. The primary advantage for me is having the antennas integrated into the case so that it's an all-in-one Stratux box, rather than a floppy collection of parts and wires.

The case is well-designed, with perfectly sized holes for the antenna terminals, and hex-shaped bolt supports to prevent the terminals from spinning. There is not enough room to use the Vilros SDRs that I had, so I replaced them with the smaller NooElec Nano 2s. The Raspberry Pi board snaps in, and fits very well, and the case assembly is tool-less as advertised. It is not tool-less to disassemble, and I had to grab a flathead screwdriver to get the case halves apart in the first place. I also needed a wrench to tighten the antenna terminals, but that's not the case's fault.

The fan seems like overkill, and if it dies a quick death, I will be neither surprised nor put out. It will probably be nice to have if summer ever arrives, though.

I have only just assembled the case and Stratux bits at this point. I'll update the review if anything changes.
