We used to use the orange plastic training bumpers available at most big pet stores, but our Lab chewed them to splinters too easily. Since she's trained to expect that toy as the reward, she's never quite happy with other substitutes we've tried to use. When this showed up, she completely lit up. I've seen some complaints about the rope. It is nylon and will unravel. When you get it, just take a lighter and burn the ends. This will melt the nylon and fuse the end of the rope.

So far so good. My dog loves to water retrieve and I have tried several of these. I do not let her chew on them, however she does shake them after she catches them. So far just teeth marks on it, I can see though where it might start tearing. This will not last as a tug toy at all. Has stood up to several trips to the pond. The weight is heavy enough to throw a reasonable distance. The string quickly unraveled however I just re-knotted it and its fine.
