Used this for backpacking to Havasupai Fall (AZ) recently. 4.5 stars! Great fit overall; packable (the bill folds nicely without ruining the shape), adjustable, light and breathable. No sunburns! I didn't use the face cover because it felt too claustrophobic in the heat. I wish the rear flaps attached higher (on the bill of the cap) to cover the sides of my face more instead of having to use the entire face cover. You can snap the flaps just under your chin instead which was better than having nothing covering my face. I highly recommend this for all your outdoor sun protecting needs.

Do you want to have brown spots on your face from sun exposure? Okay, fine. If not, you should try this. You can go outside without fear of the horrible aging and detrimental effects of the sun. Your face will be protected from that awful hyperpigmentation. I use this when I drive, if I"m gardening and on vacation in sunny locations....yeah, it does look a little strange-yes, people think I"m some strange cult-like religion or whatever, and I have to explain why I would wear this.....but it's up to you. If you want to protect your face, you'll love this.

This review is of 2 different styles I tried - and I kept the all blue one, it being much better sun protection than the prettier, yet not as effective, one.

I first bought the blue hat with the sheer purple, grey, and white neck-covering material but ended up returning it. Good concept, but the neck flap material was unexpectedly so sheer and thin it does not completely block sunlight from penetrating it. It also has one snap thoughtfully and appropriately placed in the front to gather and fasten the neck flaps together. But, again, the flap material is so sheer I am afraid the snap wouldn't last long without tearing off. I wanted to like it but I couldn't get past the impracticality of the flap material.

Then I tried the all blue one with the entire hat made from the same opaque lightweight fabric which protects your neck from the sun much better than the other one which used a thinner fabric for the neck flaps. I put away the mouth covering flap as I don't want, or feel a need, to wear that part for sun protection. It seems pretty over the top; but I'm keeping it to possibly wear in windy/cold weather. I like that the bill on this hat is generous, and that it is divided into 3 bendable sections so you can fold it up into a pretty small package (compared with trying to stuff a regular billed cap of this size into a backpack or whatever). I don't like that it has the big iColor logo smack dab in big letters right on the front.

The gauzy-material hat looked somewhat better, fashion wise, than the all blue hat. But neither of them will win you any beauty pageants. The all blue one looks pretty bright and pretty dorky; but it does the job keeping the sun off your face and neck. I like that I don't have to continuously slather on face and neck sunblock. If there is a breeze, wearing the hat makes me feel cooler too, without the sun beating down on and sizzling my skin. If there is no breeze it kind of holds in the heat, so hope for a breeze. If you are looking at these hats you're likely looking for practicality over fashion, and this hat delivers fairly well. Be advised that you might get made fun of wearing it; but you'll have the last laugh keeping sunburn and skin cancer at bay.

When you order your hat, pay close attention to the pictures, as some of the colors shown are different styles. The ones that show the long flaps on the side are completely detachable. So, you can wear the cap alone, or the cap with the back flaps, or the cap with the front netting, or the cap with both the back flaps and the front netting. All the pieces snap on along the outside brim of the hat. the strap is also detachable. It is held on with 2 tiny clips. I bought this to wear when I was putting a new tin roof on a large shop building. the sun reflected off the tin and was burning my face. So, I wore both the front netting and the back flaps. The hat doesn't breath like a regular baseball cap, but it fits well, has a long bill and folds up nicely. It repels water, which might be nice for someone wearing it in the rain. I was trying to get it wet, to cool off, so for me that was a negative. I bought several styles and this was hands down the most versatile.

Great hat, fits well, it is very cool and you can snap the neck shield to cover part of your face without using the face shield. The chin strap keeps it from blowing off on the boat especially when underway. This is great hat for any fisherman...er fisher-person. :-) I got the lightest color I could find. I would recomend this hat to anyone who it outside a lot and looking for sun protection.
