These are fantastic! They are built very well. The door gets caught on the slanted part and you have to wiggle it back and forth to get it out - it won't damage it because of how sturdy and solid they are. There is no way someone is coming into my house without hearing it while sleeping. Can't beat the price, durability, and function. They are really durable too! You can set the sensitivity so the slightest movement or touch will set it off. I've set it off myself many times while removing from the door base in the morning. I've learned to just turn off the switch before picking it up. It also fits with different height doors from the floor. No matter what, it works great. I've put it on plush thick carpet and it stays in place when the door is opened. What happens is the door gets stuck on the slanted part so they can't get in anyway, even without the alarm. So if you run out of batteries, I would still use it until you get new batteries. I would just place the alarm far enough away from the knob side (where door opens) so they couldn't reach around and pull the alarm back by hand. I have no fear now and I live alone in a new state. The front door is at the complete opposite end of the house. You would easily hear the alarm - 50 feet away, which is the distance from my bedroom to the front door. Best Buy ever and Peace of Mind!
Add velcro strip on the back to stop it sliding with the door!!

Great loud alarm BUT it slides with the door, if it's opened slowly. You might want to add a small velcro strip on the back & floor to avoid that!

I purchased several of these to use as an extra measure of security at a beach house we were staying at a few weeks back. Most of the doors in the house were sliders, but there were a couple of entry doors that swung open. These were on the lower floors where the chance of hearing one of them kicked in wouldn't have been as great. I was nice to have these simple alarms in place. They were very easy to place and were certainly loud enough to wake the house, as we found when one of our guests accidentally set one off. They afford nice, cheap insurance.
