Tamping block is a MUST HAVE
Karengail✓ Verified Purchase•December 2, 2017
I used this kit to install a bamboo floor and it worked pretty well. I agree with the other reviewers that the little plastic spacers are pretty much worthless- toss them out! I had a couple of thin strips of the flooring which I used and that worked perfectly. The block worked great and it got a lot of use before I was finished. You can tap very hard on it and it protects the flooring from any damage. I tapped a lot of boards into place and even with quite a lot of force the material was protected and I was able to close any gaps easily. The metal bar does work ok but you have to really be careful because it hops off the board if you tap it without holding it down securely- it was sort of annoying how much effort it took when using it to keep it from hopping off and skipping over the plank. It actually can cause a surface scratch if you hit hard enough and it hops of the end. There is a piece of felt on part of it but that doesn't help if the whole end skids across your board. I did get better at holding it in place but seems like it could've been a little better designed. Overall though I am happy with this purchase and at least for bamboo flooring I would not recommend trying to install it without the tamping block.
Worked great, exactly as intended

Worked exactly as advertised, as long as you use it properly it will do exactly what you need it to. In fact after I finished the room I noticed 3 planks in the fist few rows had some how come apart a bit and had to redo them, instead of practically starting over by ripping up all of them I took apart the first few rows and put them back to together backwards, it was interesting but doable and this tapping block was perfect for it, just had to make sure to set the block on the groove of the plank and tap lightly to seat them while putting them together backwards. Then when I was done I noticed because the few planks weren't perfectly flush the first time that the whole floor was just a bit crooked(the final row of planks meets the front dining area laminate and not a wall), so I used the tapping block to fix it by tapping the front end until the other end hit the spacers on the other side, which was 15 feet across. It was my first time installing any type of flooring so.... The spacers aren't all that great, but they do the job, need 3 to get a 3/8" gap.
A couple reviews say this set wrecked some of their planks, but if you use the pull bar and tapping block correctly you shouldn't have any issues. Unless you have bad planks it doesn't take but light tapping, no where near enough force required to damage them. The only way I could see the planks getting damaged like that is if you use the pull bar in place of the block, which would definitely tear the wood... Used properly, this set did the job I needed and held up very well.

Nice utility for installing snap together flooring. A MUST have!

the tapping block is made of hard plastic. made my life easier when installing the flooring. have used similar tapping blocks in the past that were made of rubber. those ended up requiring more force and resulted in crumbled rubber and a sore arm from hitting it so hard. the spacers worked great and the metal bar was even better for the tight fitting spaces.
Not a bad product.

The block performed very well after intense heavy use. Very solid. The metal pull bar worked OK. I found that even though there is a small piece of felt on the under side to keep from scratching the wood upon use, it did very little to protect the surface as the felt piece was very small. I would suggest putting a larger felt piece on there or lay a soft rag or piece of carpet underneath while using the metal bar. The spacers are not very useful either. I feel they could be if they were shaped differently perhaps an "L" shape with a small lip so removal would be easier but I really didn't need them because the flooring I used had small styrofoam padding underneath it therefore all I did was put some dumbbell weights on top of the end pieces to keep it from moving as a hammered the Pergo flooring in place. Overall I'm satisfied with this product.
Worked well for me

This kit served its purpose well for the 400 sq ft I installed. The bar held up well, no bending despite being hammered on repeatedly. The tapping block worked fine. Those that complain about it chipping laminate had this problem because they didnt hold it in place...so the problem is not the block but rather their technique and lack of knowing how to use it.
