Works well as a wire tracer and a great value

I bought this to trace thermostat wires in my wall to see where to drill/cut to fish more wires (using a Klein 50-foot Fish Tape). It was a great success. The manual is pretty awful though--the TONE setting is not even documented. After some trial and error I figured out that the SCAN setting is actually the equivalent of the TONE setting on other products and the TONE setting on this product is something else--probably for phone line testing. The SCAN setting worked very well. As other people have noted on Amazon, you get the best results if you connect one probe to one wire to trace and the other probe to ground. I used an extension cord to get a ground from a nearby outlet.
The value that you get with this item is impressive. For only a couple dollars more than the cheapest wire tracer on Amazon, you get the addition of a light, headphones, and extra functions (but I only used the SCAN function). The light and headphones already came in handy. You can use the SCAN function without headphones, but with headphones it is a little bit easier to make out a very faint signal if there are obstructions between the tracer and the wire.

A very handy tool. I recently bought a 6yo house and did not know where the existing Ethernet cables were going where. This tool solved that question. Since I am one of the last few folks with a land line (though VOIP), this tool easily identified the phone line in a junction box full of burglar alarm wires. This tool is rather light duty so not for the pro but great for the DIY.
Easy and accurate continuity and pair testing

I have used a number of circuit and pair testers and this is the best I have used. I had an old one that is still good, but a POE circuit burned out pair 3, 5&6 on the test wand. So I ordered this Meterk version. Exactly the same with the change in color. Reliable easy continuity testing which is a nice plus a lot of testers do not offer. Very good T568 std testing and it tells you which end is wrong. Big time and money saver. Reterminate the wrong end and loose time and as much as $5:00 on wasting a RJ45 (of course that much is if one has to buy retail) or RJ11connector. Very good tool. Buy it, you will be glad you did!!!

it works ok. not great but again, it's cheaper than flukes. so i guess you get what you paid. the reason i gave it 2 stars is because no auto shutoff and it drains batteries fast without your knowledge. also, the battery connectors are a bit flaky, there was a time i connected a new battery and device failed to turn on; then i noticed the battery connector was not making a solid connection to the 9v battery.

directions are a joke on how this meter works especially with a novice like myself. The print in the directions is so small that I had to enlarge them to read. Did get on You Tube and may be able to figure out how to use it that way. So at this time it stays at a 1 star
