Received this canister three weeks ago. I washed it, let it dry thoroughly, then opened a newly purchased bag of coffee weighing 2.5 pounds. The canister is only big enough for some of the coffee. I stored some beans in the original bag and some beans in the canister. Perfect for an experiment - which keeps the beans fresher, the original bag or the canister? My conclusion is that the canister kept the beans fresher based on color and smell.

I had no idea that releasing CO2 would result in such great tasting coffee! It does. The assembly was totally easy, just open, wipe out, put your coffee in there, and go! I don't use the date item, but it's there if you want to. Other reviewers complained there is no place for the measuring spoon. I just slide the handle of the spoon into the space on the side opposite the latch and the spoon just sits there until next day when I use it. No problem. Someone else stated their item had a magnetic spot on the side of the canister for the spoon, and I think that was the traveler size item, but mine did not have that magnetic spot. I have the 22 oz size. I use it for purchased ground coffee - I do not grind my own beans. I put the remainder of the coffee grounds that were in the open bag (tightly sealed, in my frig) into the canister, and next day the coffee was better. Same coffee, much better taste!
