Good knife, great customer service!!

So I picked this up as a beater knife and to see if it lived up to the reviews posted here. When the package arrived I was greeted with a different model. A shot a quick email to Eafengrow and within two hours a received a response. They asked for a picture of the knife that I had received so I replied with a picture of what I had and within 30 minutes a received another email from the company. They apologized for the mix-up and said they would send the correct knife asap and to keep the first knife a received at no charge for my troubles. The next day I received a shipping confirmation and within two days I had the correct knife in my hands. Good on them to handle the issues quickly and professionally. Five stars for Eafengrow!!

Now on to the actual review of the knife.

All things considered, it's not a bad knife at all. Good lockup, good centering, even grind and pretty sharp out of the box. I did strop it after testing the edge and it will pop hairs off my arm now. Ergonomics are decent. It fills my XL hands well. Bit of a hot spot off of the clip but not terrible. I can see it becoming an issue if you are cutting for long periods of time but for regular use it's fine.

I'll update my review after some more use to let you know how well the edge holds up and sharpening. I will carry it for the next week to see how it does.

For $26 dollars it's a bargain if it's real D2 steel. Hope my review has helped.
Good quality heavy-use folding knife. Who says all Chinese folders are garbage? UPDATE to 5 stars.

Yes, this is an obvious copy of another knife designated with 0456, but I'm not interested in paying $240 for that name. I was looking for a larger, heavier folding knife for heavy garage use. I've been using a Kershaw Clash - 8Cr13MoV blade - for the purpose, and find that it just doesn't hold the edge under heavy cutting, and the re-curve is a pain in the rear to re-sharpen. So I needed a heavy blade with good slicing and piercing ability and good wear resistance/edge retention. This blade looked to fit the bill, along with the D2 steel, so I bit. I was skeptical of the price/steel/bearing pivot combo. Too good to be true? Probably, but worth a $26 try.

The knife comes in a plain box marked "Eafengrow" - no attempt at passing this off as a clone. First flip, the thing barely locked up...uh-oh. A second, harder flip and it locked up fine. Disassembly time. Two caged ball bearings on either side of the blade. D-shaped pivot. Single recessed full steel liner with liner lock, and second small recessed steel piece to hold the stop pin. The blade base is slanted where the liner lock engages the blade so that the liner lock will not over-travel. All was pretty clean and lubed, but I cleaned and re-lubed it all myself. Worked the action - great lock-up every time now. Falls shut easily. Much better action than CRKT models with IKBS. I put the steel onto the Spyderco Sharpmaker @20 degrees (40 degrees inclusive) down to ultra-fine rods. Shaved hair with ease and with a smooth, sharp edge. Nice. Blade pierces and slices very well. The pocket clip is garbage - hot spots - but I'm not EDCing the thing, so I removed the clip and the ergonomics are great.

I have no way of knowing if this is G10 or cheap plastic. For the price, I don't care. It feels like G10 and is grippy. I have no idea if this is D2 steel @ 59-60 HRC. But it's hard (takes an edge) and has done some good cutting with edge retention - so I'll assume it is. The bearings are good, the detent (for me) is fine and it seems like a knife that could sell for more. If the steel holds up and holds an edge like I hope, I'll be upgrading this to 5 stars. This has met my needs and exceeded my expectations. Worth every bit of $26.

*Update* Blade stood up to heavy cutting use, still with a sharp working edge after cutting cord, cardboard, and scoring/cutting wood. Back to a smooth, shaving sharp edge with 5 minutes of work on the Sharpmaker. Had a tad of blade play after all that cutting - I was able to snug the pivot screw to eliminate play and still have great action. Absolutely love this knife!
Further, heavier use without touching up the edge has required a longer time on the sharpmaker stones to get the edge back to shaving.....I suspect this is D2 steel, or some equivalent. Good heat treat, tough tip. This blade will pry and the tip for me so far is unaffected.
A good value

A folding knife that is very nice for the price. Really dig the design and look of this blade. The quality is on a similar par as to the other knives I own. Happy with purchase.

Update March 20th, 2018: Downgrading a star because what felt like sharp to the touch turned out to be piss poor. Tried to cut a run of the mill garden hose with it today(first time to test) which I've done with my Griptilian a few times before because dog has chewed it. The Benchmade Griptilian blade cut it with precision. This Eafengrow barely put a mark in it, even after gritting my teeth and applying pressure and sawing at it. Massive fail! I think think the cause could be due to the blade geometry.

Sharpened on my Lansky sharpener where it took hours and hours of work to get shaving sharp edge at 25 degree angle which was close to what it came with. Who knows how long it would have taken to reprofile a 22-20 degree edge. Blade metal is hard and that is for sure.
This 5 star rating is for knives in this price range.

I'm kind of a fan of natural G-10, think it looks great. This knife feels solid, not a lightweight but, not extremely heavy.
The flipping action is solid and quick, with just enough detent to keep it that way.
The ball bearing pivot is smooth and allows the blade to fall shut with just a little nudge.
The blade design and grind are Awsome, haven't found any flaws in the grind, with equal edge grind on full cutting edge ending perfectly at the tip. I've paid 10 X this price and received edge grinds that were no where near this good.
This blade came fairly sharp but not shaving sharp, a little disappointing but nothing I can't easily correct.
The handle has a good shape and height/width but, if you have large hands, you might want for a little more length.
This is a Chinese made knife so, even though it doesn't say D2 on the blade, even if it did, there's no way to be sure. I have sharpened many blades that were D2 and it does feel like D2 when sharpening. If the heat treatment was done correctly, then this blade should hold up well, haven't done any cutting tests with it yet.
All told, I don't believe you are going to find a better knife in this price range unless, it's another Eafengrow knife. They seem to be giving you a lot of knife for your money.
I would have no problem recommending this knife.
Found my new EDC..!

People in reviews here said this knife, it's blade is "smooth," well, they aren't joking. "Like butter," I guess you could say, and that's saying a lot for a knife in this price category. Is the blade truly, as advertised, D2? I kinda doubt it, but thus far it's stayed sharp and it's really kind of beautiful! I don't know WHAT to call how the blade is formed/sharpened/cut. The pics kind of show it's a complex cut (Although those pics tend to exaggerate the cut, which is fine. And yes, as other's have pointed out, this blade is bloody sharp right out of the box. (To be honest, that doesn't matter much to me, I'll be sharpening after all as I go, but it shows an eye for detail.)

I did notice the blade when closed is a little off-center. Did I say little? Yep, VERY little, say 1 or two TENTHS of a mm little. Again, attention to detail.

The D10 grip is quite nice as well. It's a bit small for my hands, just a bit and not at all off-putting. Plus, I have quite large hands and I'm very comfortable with it. One very nice thing is the texture and ribs molded onto the sides; this isn't a knife, such as my Kershaw 1660ST that has a "slippery" stainless steel grip and is one reason I carry it less often. The textures and ribs allow you to keep an easy grip on it. And overally I like the shape of the grip although I believe I'll round down some of the material on the INSIDE edge of the handle; it's a tad irritating. And yes, this is a "grasping at straws issue" with it, and NOTHING I'd complain about; I'm just trying to find SOMETHING to whine about here. I got the orange-handled version, largely because almost all of my knives are the standard "black," and I wanted it to sort of "stand out." And it does. Now orange would rarely be my first choice, I'd prefer a deep "magenta," but now I'm just gettin' silly here.

Oh, wait, there is one thing. I was hoping beyond all hope to find a knife to replace my quite expensive Benchmade knives -- two of the same mode and I managed to lose BOTH of them, dang it. I don't recall the model number for them though, been too long ago, but what I'm really looking for is a blade that I can release with just a flip of the wrist. Both of them (Of course) had that and I've yet to find one that is reasonably priced to replace them. But that is by NO means the fault of this knife, it's just about the only thing I'd change about it.

What next? Oh yeah, the flip-open blade mechanism is "good," smooth above average and easy to use. But I find it takes some effort to get the blade to lock open all the time. Perhaps over time that'll loosen up, but given how amazingly smooth the blade moves, I have my doubts. Almost forgot the belt clip. Very nice, with enough "fight" in it to hold solidly, but not so resistant to being slipped into your jeans pocket. And for you lefties, sorry. The clip can't be moved elsewhere, something I think should be a standard for clips.

So that's about it. You probably figured out I'm "in love" with this $40 piece. I'd never heard of "Eafengrow" knives before but I'll keep an eye on them in the future. But for now, as the title says, I found a knife that is definitely become my EDC. Great attention to detail, nice looking (If that matters,) solid manufacturing, and just a pleasure to use. In a word, "solid."There's very little to not like about this knife. And as you can guess ... "recommended." :)
