I had purchased several pounds for a baffled quilt. Each 14" square received 23 Grams of down which was dispensed from a 12" x 10" box. This 900 down lofted to 3.5". I happened to have some expensive 850 down from another source to finish the project. That down lofted to 5" within the same box. From what I calculated this is closer to 650 down.

I'm not an expert in down but this stuff looks nice. I took apart another down quilt that weight 2 lbs and added 14 oz more of this to make an under quilt for my hammock. This stuff is so much thicker and fluffier than the stuff that was in the blanket originally. The other down only filled about a 1/4 of the baffles even after fluffing and had feathers. This filled the other 3/4 and I didn't see one feather. From the reviews I wasn't sure but I guess it's like everything else some packages are great and some are not. I'll be buying another bag as I have another quilt I'll be turning into a top quilt for winter camping.

Used this pound of feathers to make my own backpacking quilt. The quilt turned out super good! Took it out on a 4 day backpacking trip in the Sierras and it was still toasty warm down to the lowest temp of 43 degrees. Bag measured out to 70 in height, 56in width just for reference, with about 3in height in baffles. Down looked 100% pure. Bag has a lot of loft and compresses down a lot. Easy to gain loft again.
Make sure that you use calendered or downproof fabric for extra water resistance. I also washed the bag in Nikwax Downproof. I added the feathers to the bag in the bathtub because they will get everywhere.
Overall, this bag cost me just over $100 in materials... Saving me about $170+! (see REI quilt for reference)
