Great sound, elegent design
Edward F. O'Brien•February 14, 2018
Really enjoying the smart design and excellent sounds of this little speaker. Have been using Bose for years and decided to try something new - very happy so far with the Amico. Paired it with a Echo Dot and have access to the full suite of music. Eager to take it outside this summer!
Extremely happy with the sound and functionality

This thing has great sound, great design and great functionality, making it unique among the such devices.
The tweeter is great for better voice understanding, the woofer in all that wood is absolutely strong enough for most locations where you would use a speaker like that (kitchen, table, nightstand). You can control treble and bass so you can tweak the sound to your situation too. The design is better than other internet radios too, no plastic on the front and the side, simple, logical controls, presets that get you to your favorite internet radio station with only one touch (beat that, smartphone:), even a very nice remote control is there. No silver colored plastics and no light colored unwashable clothes, how cool is that:) Multiroom functionality is there, Spotify Connect is there, aptx and nfc are there, a 5V USB port near the audio input for Chromecast and similar is there, USB input is there, a nice control app is there. And then the portability and the water resistant wood. Two timers too. You can't complain about the price when there is no real competition...
But, well, I do have a wish list... Not saying others are doing better, but then again, in today times, there are many thing that, theoretically, could be done better. Here is my list:
You have to be very careful not to tilt the speaker by pressing the buttons. I tend to hold the speaker with my other hand when pressing the buttons. It could be that the problem is only present on the vertical Amico and not on the horizontal Solo, Duetto etc, but still. The click mechanism could be a little lighter.
Dedicated treble and bass control would be nice and also a reminiscence to classic radio designs.
A real EQ instead of the simple treble-bass control would help in some situations.
Volume control is OK for most usage, but imprecise in the low level setting. Especially for a nightstand radio it should be much finer.
Different internet radios can have very different basic volume. Bluetooth tends to be very low volume. An input volume control, or some kind of global normalization would be helpful.
The rubber extensions for the buttons work well and look great matching the preset buttons in color. But why not add a spare one or two to the package, just for the peace of mind, if my children start to play with that thing?
My oldest smartphone has better WiFi!? No big problem for me, but why?
The processor power is just OK, but for 10$ more it should be possible to buy at least 5 times faster processor. Just go and ask how much that processor costs. Same goes for the display. The display is also not perfectly centered (which I don't care about:)
When I switch on an internet station and the WiFi is not stable, it is not possible to switch over to an another input for minutes, because the radio autistically thinks it should first search for that WiFi for ages and is not obeying to any other commands during that effort:)
Podcasts can be put on the preset buttons, but not the folders of the podcasts. I rarely want to hear the same podcast again and again. But accessing a specific folder of podcasts would improve the functionality greatly. I could access a podcast that I want to hear in a couple of clicks.
Why not add the audiobook functionality, with bookmarks and saving the last position? "Audible" functionality would be even better. Especially on a portable speaker.
Spotify is cool, but what about Chromecast built in, Tidal etc? I would also be much happier to be able to select my Spotify playlists on the radio itself. A radio that is able to function as a standalone device should be able to do that.
If showing the name of the song is the only real functionality of the display, I would prefer a monochrome high resolution display.
When do we will get lyrics on the display of an internet radio? The name of the song is there, the internet is full of lyrics, the radio is connected with the internet, when will somebody from a company that wants to sell internet radios invest a couple of weeks of programming into that?
I find it is a pity that almost no company seems to be really interested in developing the experience of modern audio media consumption on a standalone device. Maybe only Grace Digital seriously is trying to develop the idea of a modern standalone audio player further. The ubiquitous alternative, streaming speakers with smartphone control will always be dependable on, well, a second device:), which has to be there, be charged, be connected, be used with clean fingers and not be used for something else in that moment. I really hope I will not be forced to control my bathtub and WC with my smartphone app in the future:) All the things I would like to see are achievable with a small display like the one on the Amico. Maybe something like Echo Show is the future of an audio device. Because some visual information about the music is really helpful and is also needed for choosing stations, podcasts, playlists. Touchscreen can also help with control of some complicated functions, although I would like to retain a set of dedicated buttons, which make control of some simpler functions faster and more intuitive. On the other side, Alexa & Siri are still far away from understanding every word fast and reliable and I don't understand how could they help me choose from a long list faster than a touchscreen or a click wheel.
So, that thing has great sound and great functionality, even if there are a couple of things regarding standalone device abilities like streaming services, podcasts and audiobooks which could be done a little better. However, the alternatives are almost not existent, especially not with that sound quality. On the other side, regarding multiroom functionality, there are some better (bigger) options on the market. But, as a combination, I haven't seen a better device.

I couldn't be more happy with my Como Audio products!
JDP007•November 27, 2017
I couldn't be more happy with my Como Audio products. I own both the Solo and Amico. The sound is phenomenal, and the fit and finish is unmatched! Very intuitive controls, with so many different listening options to choose from. This is a company that stands by their product.
Como Audio heads to the great outdoors with style!

The new teak, battery powered Amico is beautifully designed and crafted. The finish is beautiful and is water resistant, although understandably not waterproof.
We have been enjoying a Como Solo and Duetto in our house for many months, so it is wonderful to be able to have a portable option now as well.
The user interface is identical to that in the Solo and Duetto models. Pretty easy to navigate, particularly with the included remote control or iOS/android phone app.
Battery life is great. The Amico turns completely off if you do not have it plugged in to conserve battery power. It takes a minute or so to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection when you turn it back on, but all of your settings are retained so it's no problem.
It's great to be able to get sound from so many sources: internet radio from around the world, Bluetooth, flac files from a usb flash drive, and high resolution audio from a mini-jack stereo input (great for service like TIDAL). We don't use the standard FM tuner or Spotify app, but they are included as well.
Set up and Wi-Fi connectivity was a snap.
It's great that they included the six pre-set buttons found on the Solo and Duetto models: it's so cool to have crystal clear internet reception for our local NPR stations, BBC, Italian radio, African stations, etc all at the touch of a single button
Ability to have several Solos, Duettos, and Amicos in your home, control them centrally, and have them play the same or different programming in each area.
Display with option of analog or digital clock
Ability to set two alarms with great programmability options (daily, weekday, weekend... awake to a variety of sources...)
I would not hesitate in buying a Como Audio Solo, Duetto or Amico: design, build quality, sound, connectivity, and features are unbeatable and well worth the price.
