Expensive tool, but no real other choice

I bought this while on sale at 250$ and has been totally worth the wait. I've been trying to capture 4K XBox One X and my PS4 Pro footage with tools at a realistic price. I don't think i'd have paid full price, but not because the product isn't worth it. Simply because it isn't a "must have" unless to NEED to capture 4K, then you have no other real choice on the market right now.

While the HDR capture is still kinda buggy and in beta, this card will allow HDR to pass thru. The catch here is that you can't tell the Elgato software to NOT capture HDR but then demand the console outputs HDR. Nope. You've gotta either capture HDR or turn it off at the console. While 4K on the other hand works perfectly, as long as you don't have a hub/switch.

Previously I had all 4 of my consoles plugged into an HDMI active switcher and it would allow me to plug only the Switcher into the TV but power on any console of my choice for instant play. You can't do that with this setup if you want to capture 4K footage from the consoles. My solution has been to buy another HDMI cable that I leave sitting freely and I just plug directly into whatever I need to capture, PS4, XBox, or Switcher (for the other 1080p only consoles). Footage is always clean when capturing but the software side can get a tiny bit confusing with OBS.

Happy testing, friends!
My experience should help your decision.

First off, yes I am a gaming YouTuber and this is my truth about the Elgato 4K60 Pro. I have had this capture card for about two weeks and yes this is my first device and experience in recording 4K gameplay and let me just say this internal capture card does exactly what it's supposed to do. I record all my gameplay at 2160p at 60fps and my bitrate is at 148mbps, now I know what you're thinking... yes the downside to this is that it takes your CPU to its limits if you have a budget build. My specs for my gaming/streaming PC are below, also with these specs you shouldn't have any problems:

GeForce GTX 1070
Intel Core i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
16GB RAM

Let's dive into the installation, if you built your PC the install should be effortless but for those new to the guts of a PC make sure to power off your PC before installation and have a open PCI slot for the capture card.

The program that comes with this capture card is called "4K Capture Utility" and it is current in the barebones stages because it lacks features which it's sister program "Game Capture HD" has. The settings within the program allow you to record in the most stunning 4K as well as being about to do more within programs like OBS such as streaming, recording with live commentary, recording facecam and gameplay together in 4K. I have noticed that the preview window of the "4K Capture Utility" can sometimes lag if you maximize all settings and try to play from you recording software.

Now, you're probably asking... what are the biggest problems with the 4K60 Pro? So here it is, there is the issue of the capture card not supporting HDR. It is something to think about even though the price of the card is only $400.00 and really to tell you the truth the only issues are software which can be updated in the future because the hardware if good. I believe soon that Elgato will focus efforts on updating the main software even though I use OBS for mostly everything when it comes to recording/streaming.

So far, I'm impressed with the 4K60 Pro. It records and renders stunning visuals fast and efficiently without any issues or harm to my PC. Outside of the 4K Capture Utility software problems, this device is a perfect fit for OBS. If you have a concern with the price, look up other 4K capture devices and specs and compare pricing and more. Now, If you can overcome the price then you'll be an extremely happy content creator with this purchase.

I ended off the year diving head first into this 4K phenomenon and I'm glad I made this purchase.

How Elgato Saved My Life (And My Pants)

I was looking to ditch my old Avermedia card, which required me to do strange traditions every time I started up my computer just to get the card to work (opening the program 3 times, closing and re-opening OBS, etc.)

Looking to upgrade, I put my faith into Magewell, which was a disaster - the "plug and play" capture card had a plethora of issues, from no audio to stuttering visuals.

I was about ready to poop my pants out of frustration when I noticed Elgato announce their 4K60Pro. I decided to dish out the extra cash to future-proof my setup and, let me tell you hwat, I AM SO GLAD I DID. This card is super easy to install, and worked as soon as I downloaded the software. No silly traditions to make it work, no stuttering video, beautiful audio and video. Thank you, Elgato - not only for the amazing product, but for saving me from buying a new pair of pants.

Pro-tip: there is a slight audio desync (which is something I've experienced in every capture card I've had.) If you go into the Advanced Settings in either OBS or Xsplit, delaying the audio for the capture card by about 200ms will make it spot on with the video. :)
4K CAPTURE AT IT'S FINEST!!!!

Back in 2013 when both the PS4 & Xbox One were announced, we saw visuals of games that weren't even close to 4K and at the time was impressive. Fast Forward to 2017-2018 and not only did the PS4 PRO and Xbox One X been upgrade to run games are 4K but the quality of our games being capture has evolved as well. Elgato has went above and beyond with their latest product which is the Elgato 4K60 Pro which allows gamers/creators to record in 4k 60fps. I recently owned an Elgato HD60 Pro and for the most part was satisfied with the quality and zero lag, but this 4K capture Card is a beast. It has it's own dedicated 4k Capture software and also supports the original Game Capture Software. This is one of the first official 4K capture cards that come in at an affordable price. I live stream 4-5 times a week, I do walkthroughs on certain video games and haven't had any technical issues. Keep in mind for the best experience you should make sure you PC meets this devices spec requirements. Click the provided link for further information. I've tested this card on some what lower specs and still ran amazing. Anyone looking to live stream or produce content on anything gaming related should definitely pick this up!

I was about to throw this thing out the window as it simply was not working for me. Turned out to be user error. Hope to give you all a heads up. Not all PCI slots are created equal. I have an MSI Z170A M5 mobo. I had this plugged into slot 7. Turns out if you have anything plugged into the above slots (excluding the video card) the PCI slot downclocks to 1x. I had a sound card sitting above the Elgato. I actually had to pull out my mobo's manual as I had a suspicion it was something to do with the slots and came across the pci downclocking factoid in the manual.

This Card needs minimum 4x pci lane to operate which I knew. Didn't expect mine to downclock to 1x. For some reason, the only other slot I have causes my computer to freeze when I plug the elgato into it. Not sure what is going on there.

Once I figured that out, the card is now working flawlessly. I recorded several CoD:WWII clips from my Xbox X at 1080P60 and 4K60 and all have come out liquid smooth.

I took off a star because Elgato's troubleshooting leaves a lot to be desired. I'm sure I'm not the only who will run into this issue. Also, the recording software works, but doesn't have any editing abilities. The other video capture/editing software they provide works, but you will have downgrade your entire signal to 1080P..

Hardware requirements are harsh, I have a 6700K with 1080GTX which is handling the task without issue. But, when I check my resourses while the elgato is doing it's thing, they're barely breaking a sweat. I also now have to use the onboard sound. If I can ever get pci slot 5 working, I might be able to use my sound card again. Not really Elgato's fault though.
